A610 water pipes!

Postby r5gordini » Sun May 10, 2020 9:29 am

Hi All,

I need some advice on my A610 water pipes - the long ones that run front-to-back. One of them has a hole in it towards the front. See photo. Is there any chance this can be fixed without replacing the entire lot?

Presumably, replacing them is an engine out job? Anyone know of a source? Not sure if Johnny Law still has any?

Thanks,

Andrew

Yes, it is engine out, like it is for the GTA too.
2 or 3 folk including Lee at RATS and John at JLE have had replacements made up.
Either may have stock too.
I read rumours (previous posts) that sometimes the Simon Auto ones are not quite right for RHD cars.

If its close to the end, then maybe you can slide a rubber pipe over the top or use self amalgamating tape, but in the end new pipes will be needed.
Rats tried both temporary fixes on mine unsuccessfully, so then Lee replaced the pipes on my A610 as part of my rebuild, they started leaking when the car was reassembled.
John Law can also make you up new ones in aluminium.
Simon has them listed at 585 euro a set in stainless, plus postage ...and fitting.
On the RHD/LHD question. Flexible heater hoses are different on a RHD 610 but the renault parts book shows the rigid pipes being the same. Thats doesnt mean the Simon pipes fit well.
I think we are at the stage when most cars will have had them or need them...but your car has been rebuilt recently so it should come apart easily for the change.

Thanks Guys! I can't stomach the cost for a full replacement right now, so may see if I can get away with a temporary repair for a bit. I'll see what my mechanic guy can come up with - I'm too busy right now to work on my projects so I'm having to pay someone else just to try to get the car roadworthy. It's sat idle for a few months due to various leaks that I've not been able to get to.

I hope you find something ....my car had a leak at the end near the rear turret, Lee tried a few things but still could not get it watertight, and in the end I was rebuilding the car, so leaving a repair didn't seem right. You might find some better materials...epoxy putty might work if you can drain it enough to get it dry enough to stick.

I put Simon Auto ones on my RHD, they fitted not so bad, little brute force was required, but not much more than to get the old ones out

No harm in trying to cut back first if space allows.
Bear in mind that there may be hidden rust and leaks elsewhere though.
Replacement is an engine out job.
Apparently aluminium is a better replacement that stainless as it reduces the risk of galvanic corrosion to the engine.

These are aluminium pipes from JL engineering. GTA pictured but A610 similar. Will cost around £500 set.
