Engine weight

Does any body (David!) know what the exact weight of a fully dressed 2.5 turbo engine is complete with ancillaries please?
Alpines - GTA 3.0 Turbo, GTA 3.0 Inj (Project DD), GTA 6.2 V8 (500 bhp) , R32 Skyline GTR, BMW Alpina B10 635 Highline, Alpina B10 E39 5 Series, Jaguar 4.2 XKR, Laguna 205GT, BMW 120d.

Standard PRV is 170kgs, plus your turbo (12kg), piping (4), alternator (6), starter motor (6), manifolds and backplate (12), so just over 200kgs

v8 weights

Corvette LS1 5.7 fully dressed with pas pump and air-con pump which can be binned - 226kg. Brand new crated from the states rated at 405 bhp - $5-6000 without ancillaries. 465 bhp version - $7200. Those prices are without trying to hunt down a deal! I think this is the engine they use in the Ultimas. If I was not so bothered about weight you can get the cast iron engine that this is built on (350ci small block chevy) built up by an engine specialist complete with all ancillaries ready to go on holley carbs 450bhp for $6600!

nice, but don't tforget the hidden extra...... Import duty from the states, it's obscene!,thats why a $20000 ends up costing £30000+ once you get it landed in the UK! :(

if you get them to ship it as "a second hand engine" bye bye tax as it only applies on new goods! 8) same goes for any other car bits you buy from the US value over £ 350.... the limit has just changed so it may be higher than that.

Youve just got to check engine length and height now and whether it will fit...

The engine is 28" from back to front of pulley, and 25" high from bottom casing to the top of the inlet manifold (not including sump)

You need to also that the extended point of both these dimensions doesnt cause the engine to hit the glass.

EDIT : I just went and measured my car and the PRV is only 18" long, the LS1 is another 10" longer.

Another 10 inches, ouch.
Sounds like a rear end strech is required and with all that power what about the strength of the box?

What they actually said was he knows how to use his 10 inches - sorry for the mix-up! :roll:

remember the GTA has an exhaust and intercooler between the front of the engine and the back of the car - I'll have a proper measure up at the weekend. Height doesn't matter as there will be no rear glass to worry about - just perspex sheet which can be cut about. Not going to give up on this idea just yet!

But the engine came higher than the spoiler, so the extra 10" would mean cutting into the spoiler area, not just where the silencer goes, and truthfully on a V8, you would need some kind of transverse silencer in the original location just because of the noise!
