heater temp control knob A610

Postby jagcat12 » Wed Jan 30, 2019 8:09 am

On my A610 the heater control knob no longer seems to have any effect on the temperature coming from the cabin vents. Have used the search tool on the site but cannot find a definite article on how too access the controls behind the knob. Any one point me in the right direction. Unfortunately only have a very poor copy mostly unreadable of the repair manual.

From memory, there are 4 screws around the bezel that allows the heater control out, however the cables on the RHD cars are very short and it won't come out far before you have to unclip them from the controls at the back...its a horrible job.
You might get more space if you take the radio and cd/player/oddments holder out first.
Before you do, remove the scuttle cover under the bonnet and turn the knobs and see if the arms at the other end move.
Have fun....

Hi there well what normally happens is the cable becomes detached from the control arms.
The easy end to check is under the bonnet and remove the cover tray to expose the heater box, there you will see on the driver side some white plastic rack and pinyon that control the heater flaps, the cable is held in by some plastic clips and they brake or just pop out.
The same is inside can’t remember precisely but if you remove the passenger side panel I think you can see the cable and weather it is connected as that comes of as well.

Yes, from memory under bonnet access easier and more likely that end will have come off the arm. The cables get very dry and consequently stiff which causes them to pop off.

OK thanks for that ,will have a go when weather warms up.
Before the knob went all slack it was quite hard to turn so hopefully it has come adrift and an easy fix ha ha
will keep you posted.

If the wire has come off it should be an easy fix, however if the knob has been forced and the wire has kinked or bent it will usually just keep kinking or bending again in the same place after being straightened out so may need replacing. Hopefully it will just have fallen off.

Have taken the cover off and exposed the plastic cogs which all turn freely and nothing broken and cables secured and all seems well there. the air distribution control works fine but the temp control sees to be disconnected from the knob. So try to get at that next.
