Confirmation of paint code

Postby davidmt » Thu Aug 16, 2018 6:49 pm

I have just purchased a spoiler for my Spider. I assumed as it was from a Yellow Spider then the colour would match. However I am not convinced!

The spoiler looks slightly brighter than my paint colour. Now I don't have a lot of history but mine is supposed to be paint code NV535 and the touch up paint I have bought seems fine but there is obviously a colour difference.

My local paint guy will respray if I decide to but I need to give him the paint code.

However when I look at dfferent angles it does not look as bad!

My eyes are clearly not great - any thoughts or suggestions. I kind of recall there were 2 Yellow paint codes but think I may conclude to fit the spoiler and see how it looks in the day light.

Problem is assuming the paint is supplied correctly it is a 3 stage process.

1. Colour coat
2. Pearl coat
3. Lacquer

Both the depth and direction of application for coats 1 & 2 can make a big difference to the finished colour.

So even if you have the correctly mixed paint it can still end up looking wrong.

I would say just fit it and see how it looks. You can always repaint it later.

My Clio trophy rear spoiler under strip lights looks different in natural day light
A sight different in full sun fine all to do with the 3 stage pearl effect Image

Steven is 100% right, firstly yellow is a bad colour for fading, because of the type of paint process you cannot just paint a panel you have to paint a hole side or back and blend in.
As it is just a bolt on part a slight difference I would live with, as you could be opening a can of worms and your wallet.
