Currently at £4K.
Add £2K for a reasonable paint job and £1K for recommissioning brakes, steering etc and another £1K for contingencies like water pipes....

Am I out of touch with current prices?

Yes.

4/5 for full glass out,stripdown respray and rebuild ..that's not £800 ;-)
Water-pipes are £450 cost + fitting, engine out + you'd probably find other stuff needing doing + you'd probably do clutch whilst its out.
+ Rot ?? Could be OK could be not ..

Reserve is most likely 6 or 7k
Mr Metters should be able to give a more accurate idea of what things really cost. That's if he dares look in the tally book .

If I were Sam...........I'd have ex RATS atmo on ebay quick sharp, starting at 6K, ................a tested on the road and running car, not an unknown project, is a safer bet for that price bracket.
'92.........'87 ........25 years old..........30 years old .........things like air con and ABS are just extra weight adding tripe........look where you're going and open a window!

YES.

Blue turbo just sold with a knackered engine for £4k. Anything half decent got to be £8-12k GTA wise nowadays.

Minters £15k?

I would get Sam's snapped up at £6k before prices surely rise again next spring when the new A110 comes out.

To be fair the current ebay Atmo looks nice and original and straight so it will be interesting to see what it goes for.

Or is his likely reserve too high and at that price not an economical purchase?
With Sams at £6 and another on C&C at a little more than that plus the perl white one on flea bay at £7.5k and none selling.

Is it just another case of a chancer hoping to take advantage of the classic car bubble which will one day go pop? And people being taken in (or dare I say it some friendly bids).

I'm seeing it across the board, not just, very expensive stuff, but things like Merc SL (R129), with advertised prices rising by the week but not actually selling. CE320 (W124) convertibles being advertised at £15k but someone I know cannot sell his for £8k.
Similarly Lotus Excel, what was selling for £3-4K now being advertised at £7-8K but selling?? And don't talk to me about Lancia Integrale which I could have bought last year for £8k now advertised at £16K or more.

Should have kept my E30 M3 Cecotto - sold for £8k, Elan S4 DHC, sold for £6k and Lotus Seven S2 sold for £5.5K

No I don't think so.
I just think the GTA has risen to sensible levels now.
Used to be they were way under the classic bubble, overlooked and underloved.
People still think they can pick a decent car up for 3 or 4k ...well no you can't these days.
£2 to 3k for a 'scrapper'
Less and less out there with many being rotters with a nice looking coat.

NEVER EVER look in the tally book. It's really frightening. 4k and reserve not met? Not worth it in my book. Even dry stored it will probably take 2k's worth of recommissioning, and that's assuming no rot and before any paint. Far better to buy a runner with some known history with RATS and take it from there.

Well the one below looks quite good. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1976-Renault ... 2838097917

Evidently only need light restoration, there is no rust underneath but there is a hole that needs welded in the floor, the engine is fine and the clutch but it has 2 blown rear tyres, so from an engine that ticks over you can tell it’s all fine.

How big is your wallet apart from the inside it looks like a lot of work, any good salesman only sells the positive points.
