electrical help

Update---
a friend of a friend who has much more electrical system knowledge than I and some neat testing equipment has determined that the TDC sensor is bad. [naturally...its hard to get to...]
My question dear forum members is - is that sensor generic to PRV engined cars or is it specific to Alpine? I looked at our site sponsors site linked on the left and they didnt show one. Thought that if it was the same for all PRV powered vehicles there might be a few wandering around my end of the world [DeLoreans and Volvos].

Not sure...the part number is 6000008573

Suggests Alpine specific (it would start 77 if renault).
Simon autos in Germany supply these. I bought one recently..need to fit it...
What I don't know is if there is anything specific about this sensor..Clee or Martin Faulks on here might know...

Another 77 part is suggested...but there was some talk that the offset might be specific...though it might just be the heat shield along the cable...

Plug type is the issue with aftermarket ones and it must be said quality.Renault OE is best bet,others will work but you have to chop the plug and rewire.Either bullet/solder or get a new male and female combo.
Big note is that wire colours are swapped even on the complete correct OE plugs ...White goes to red

Thanks to local musician and automotive electrical system troubleshooter extraordinaire Stewart Wood, and Andreas at Simon Auto, the Alpine now runs better than ever! Got the new sensor finally - NO thanx to dhl [Drop it Hide it Lose it] as they are still looking for the one Andreas sent first - plugged it in, put on new cap rotor etc and voila!

Now...anybody want a nice dark blue Alpine Turbo?

Got the new sensor finally - NO thanx to dhl [Drop it Hide it Lose it] as they are still looking for the one Andreas sent first - plugged it in, put on new cap rotor etc and voila!

Can you share some pictures and documentation details?

As an addendum to above, I might note that the sensor/wiring I got from Simon Auto had the correct plug and didnt require any wire swapping ; could it be that the aftermarket has corrected this, or is it possible that theres a difference in RHD cars which I assume all y'alls are?

In answer to the questions above : I am in-the-middle-of-nowhere Tulsa Oklahoma - look on a map...
Sometimes there are 'life changes' , and not always the ones you want - I actually needed to sell the car before I took delivery! Be that as it may, I do like the car...but am beginning to try and find it a new forever home.
As far as 'documentation' goes, about all I have is the epa/dot import papers, a small stack of receipts showing the stuff done to the car by the previous owner and all the original books and such. The prior owner spent almost what the car is worth on it in the prior year and a half before I got it. He sold the car to help finance a racing program.
The car was originally sent to Japan, hence the low miles. Its showing just under 30k kilometers. Every single thing save the mechanical trip odo reset works on the car to the best of my knowledge. I see no evidence of collision repair any where, tho I do believe the car has been repainted ; the paint is just too good to be original. Tyres - correct Michelins on back and correct size on front - have under a thousand miles on them. Leather is good, not perfect, but above average. There is a seam split on the front seat that I plan to have repaired within the next couple of weeks. It does not have all the original japanese stereo, but has a new Alpine unit. Carpets are good, not perfect, but showing a little fade and a small stain on the drivers side. If dhl will ever find my box of stuff and get it to me, it will have nice new Alpine mats from Simon Auto. Car fires right up now, pulls smooth, no smoke, no leaks and all the gears go in nicely. Clutch is smooth and progressive. Front end is tight and steering is good. Lights work. etc etc. Nice old car.

It's a pity you can't keep her...but better to have loved and lost etc...
