The latest bodge...

Postby r5gordini » Tue Sep 26, 2017 10:31 am

Hi All,

I thought you might be interested - the flexi brake hoses on my A610 needed renewing. I noticed they were slightly perished when I replaced the rear calipers. The MOT tester recorded an advisory.

When I went to get some braided ones made up today, the shop said that they only had convex fittings available. My old ones were concave. Not sure of the exact nomenclature. Basically like this:

My old ones were like the ones on the left. However, the shop only had the right-hand style. So they made them up and I went back to my garage. Turns out they should have been like on the right! So... the only reason my brakes weren't leaking was due to the buildup of crud and rust on the threads of the old flexi hoses... Eeek...

In other news, while undoing the rigid pipes, the left-rear broke and the right-rear was damaged. The garage is hoping to cut and extend the right-hand rear rigid pipe. Otherwise, it'll be a pig of a job to replace as it goes over the gearbox, next to the body of the car. It looks like it's already been replaced at some point...

Haha... Well, I am adding my own to the list! Just trying to sort the car out so that it's reliable and safe ;-)
