A110 correct engine??

Postby nikos » Sat Jan 14, 2017 2:28 pm

Hi to all,
I am new to the club since i 've never owned an Alpine before.

I got myself a 1973 A110 1600SC that needs quite a bit of work :thinking and cannot figure out if the engine is the correct one

The number is 84430001181

Anybody can help?

Many thanks
Nikos
:)

Does the engine have any other numbers that would indicate the engine type? Some examples are numbers beginning with 807-, 843-, 844- followed by two further digits.

From the number and the picture it looks to be the correct 844-30 engine unique to the A110 & A310

The rocker cover is certainly correct.

Hadn't spotted that the number was the engine type code and, presumably, the serial number combined.
Agreed that type 844-30 is correct for one of the 1605cc engines used on the SC.

Many thanks, only is there a way to find if it's a matching number car?

I'm not sure how you'd go about it but if you are in the UK, the V5 registration document will have the engine number but this will only tell you what engine was in the car at the time of importation. Not sure whether the French registration document, Certificat d'immatriculation, also known as the carte grise; would help. Even if you were able to obtain a copy, from what I can find on the internet, it shows the engine capacity but doesn't appear to show the engine serial number.

You could make an application to Renault Classic to obtain a Certificate of Authenticity. At the bottom of the page on the link below.

Looks as if you'll have an interesting restoration project there. Any more photos? Are you in the UK?

The timing chain cover looks to have been cut away and looks similar to an R15TS/R17TL set up with the pulley for the fan, and the housing extended to take in a bearing boss for the fan on the R/H side. The later R17G had an 844 motor, but didn't have the belt diven fan as it was electric. I would be very happy to have the car whether the engine number absolutely matched its manufacture or not.

But sometimes the engine's serial numbers are down somewhere near the gearbox and finding it remains complicated.
