Have you got a spec of what you purchased and how much of each item.
My engine is coming out next week, could be a good time to get the same job done.

Whereabouts were the fuel lines cracked? Possible to check with the engine in situ? I don't fancy pulling mine out unless I have to ;-)

Ok it was driving me mad trying to find someone who will make up fuel lines no one seems to do it anymore, in the end I found south coast hydraulics 01273 446444 I took the lines in and they made them then and there, I had one done in stainless steel braided PTFE pipe this is the one to the filter under the wheel arch and up to the engine, and the return line half done in stainless steel. I didn't realise but they are different, one pipe has an od sized thread so you can't mix the pipes up luckily had it on the shelf. £75inc Vat.
The pipe cracks at the end of the swage, the swage was corroded off down at the filter and the swages around the Heat shielding on the engine pipework if they are rusty be careful, unfortunately it is an engine out job as the pipes pass through side of the turret and then up behind the hot water steel pipes and the heat shielding on the bulkhead you can't get them out with the engines in.

Luckily also when removing the engine there is a small water pipe just below the turbo hard to get at which goes to the heater matrix steel pipe in the tunnel that we shot, just managed to find a local supplier of silicon pipes went over and got one they are in Borden check them out on the web they've got loads of pipe Silex LTD 01420 487130

OK, thanks Custard!

I wonder if Phildini replaced them when he had the engine out?

I really want to get to grips with my car - it's been a running project but these sorts of things worry me - it's fear of the unknown!

I'll check over as much as I can see with the engine in situ.

Remove the drivers side rear wheel you will then see the petrol filter you can then see there is a small section of braided pipe look at the swage ends and the steel pipe all this rusts because of its environment, on the top of the engine right side you can see 2 pipes which are covered with an old heat rope at each end peel this back and there are swage fittings underneath if they are rusting you need to start thinking about changing them.
However it's not just 610s all petrol rubber pipes on all cars bikes whatever up to the mid 90s are not ethanol resistant now they have raised the percentage of ethanol in petrol last year and it slowly goes jelly like from the inside and then starts to block jets filters ect. Just had my 90s chainsaw pack up all the diaphragms jelly plus the pipes in the petrol tank.

Had the dive clubs outboard Failed for the same reason, fortunately iot too far outside the harbour. 4 inches of pipe inside the fuel pump enclosure failed...the dealer didn't know what was wrong but we found it in the end.
I'll be replacing all the pipe on my atmo...well, I'll be having a word with Clee and asking him to....once he stops working on inappropriate german cars...... :up

Sounds like a 911 had to rebuild the wife's engine in the summer, yes good parts suppliers but also good over inflated prices. If it's air cooled don't tell me it has cracked head bolts, and due to crap engine design warps the heads then warps the top cam head ££££££££££££££££ just a set of after market non cracking head bolts £700.

V12 Beemer.Price is irrelevant as it is what it is and it needs it .Its not a Mondeo so don't expect to pay as such ..... nice they turn up/exist...... that's worth a lot more .

Yes I agree lee, one of the big downsides of these cars is Renaults lack of interest, and it's even worse in the uk due to the relationship between Renault uk and Renault france.
Although Dieppe have recently reawaken to outpr cars and are doing more, most parts aren't available from Renn auto and they have sold their stocks of to various places. The std Renault bits are also too old and not available either. I guess the relatively short life of renaults agaisnt BMW and Porsche means the orders dwindle to nothing early.
For us it gets worse as I understand it, the uk distribution business isn't part of Renault and dieppe have to sell all alpine parts through Renault uk. All,ok so far, but the alpine parts orders aren't part of the normal spares system and are handled through a sepearate process. Last time I ordered something it was basically a fax to dieppe followed by an in person visit to collect them, then distribution to the dealers. There is no inventory search link, so the process of knowing if something is available is a mess too. This is what creates the delay as I guess there have to be enough parts to collect to justify a trip.
I also remember alpine bits being high priced like BMW ...I was quoted 250 for a set of 610 brake pads that could be got in similar grade for 20 if you knew what else they fitted.
Good thing that we have specialists to help......

I won't keep banging on about it but this is where the Club should step in ......A610 and GTA fuel lines ...Custard fella gets some custom jobs done, club says hey that's a part we'll all need soon so lets see a show of hands and we'll get a batch done,be cheaper then ......I've tried it a few times with bits but it's not a wise business move ...but a 'club' can and should do it.....

Something like that would make it easy wouldn't it...the suppliers could be sitting in the background, doesn't have to be the club itself... It's just a question of making it easy to source,...it all takes too long to get just now. Would help hold up the values too!

Or we just keep throwing money at SimonAuto instead :up
His website and catalogue site are a bit of a nightmare and some replica bits a bit .....but if it's there you'll get it within a week .I've got a office bloody full of his shipments for various projects .
John rang me last week btw.Car almost ready ...he needed some rear vent slats so they could get the rear glass fitted perfectly,he was going to pop over and collect some but not been as yet .

Clee is right about other makes being better supported. The larger manufacturers will produce parts long after a model has gone out of production, partly because of the numbers sold but also due to parts sharing. The BMW V12 engine was used in the 8 series & the 7 series over a number of years & model updates. Also the perceived quality of BMWs has meant enthusiasts are willing to spend money on them, keeping the values high.

The poor old GTA on the other hand was always seen as a brave attempt to build a Porsche rival. It needed a buyer who was not frightened to try something different. Unfortunately due to poor dealer support & iffy reliability it remained a left field choice, & quickly became forgotten. Hopefully Renault will addres this with the new car as buyers today wil not accept second best. The quality German brands have built their reputation on a solid product & excellent dealer back up. "They all do that mate" is not acceptable when you are trying to sell against Porsche.

As to the spares availability. Some of the car clubs started by sourcing parts for specific models. This was in the pre - internet days. It is much easier to google for parts today, but only if you know what you need. This is where Mecaparts, Simon etc come in, however neither offer an easy to follow website, Simons being particularly poor & expensive. Some clubs do offter a parts service. Usually for things that are hard to get or have been re-manufactured. It takes a big commitment to put this in place & it is understandable why clubs wont do it. I do feel that it would certainly help the GTA if there was a company in the uk that would produce a simple to follow website with sensibly priced parts. With only 100 cars on the road in the uk it is unlikely to happen. I am constantly being asked where i get parts for mine. Now we have Clee who has sussed the rot issue on these cars there should be more people prepared to keep them on the road. BigMVS also provides a valuable source of used parts. I have tried to source things from Eurocarparts & other suppliers but its not easy. If i do find things i keep a note of the part number for future reference.

A list of suppliers who have stuf or patterns would be helpful, the fuel lines wil be a growing issue it was not cheep but for safety and robustness l wanted proper swaged ends, you can do it yourself with aluminium fittings and braided lines in all fancy colours but not as robust for under the car or in the wheel arch.
The alpine is the last of the type of cars from the 80/90s that are fairly simple that you can work on or modify to improve the original design. I do think that the values will rise and they are starting to but it is to do with the era, the generation that are buying the bulk of classics cars at the moment are from the 60s and are pushing the prices up of the cars they could not afford when they were young, so the 80/90s cars will not really start until that generation starts to retire, that to me is why the new Alpine is based on the 110 it is Appeling to that generation and how many uther manufacturers have dun the same thing.
