A310 strange question

Postby xranalli » Sun Sep 04, 2016 8:55 am

Dear firends
I've a very simple (and maybe stupid) question.
My A310 has not the glass but a grid on a rear door..maybe it is cool but...what will happen when I'll wash the car?
I mean that the water can go in the space between grid and the rest of door (engine cover) and ther it cannot go out
I'm negletting something?

sorry for the stupid simple question...

Just wash it carefully, maybe cover the engine in a plastic sheet if you are that worried.

Yes lovely car, I'm getting to like the 310 more and more. It must be me getting older :crazy More pics x 2!!!!!

That is worrying, but it would mean a good part supply for 310 owners LOL

when you have joined the club, only £25, then you can post in the For Sale and Wanted section of the website.
Perhaps you can simply "swap" with another owner.

Most owners prefer the 'grid' on the A310 as it improves the cooling greatly.

Does yours have the fibreglass cover underneath?
If it does (it is much stronger/rigid) but should have holes to allow the heat to escape.

If you are going to give your car more power then do not change the 'grid' until last as you may change your mind when you start to have problems with hot temperature.

Hi,

Fantastic looking car... very nice indeed :-)

Question is your side glass tinted or clear, if so which tint? I can't tell in the pictures...

I have a very yellow looking thing in restoration at RATS, CLee & Ryan dynamic duo... :D hence my interest... I know, I know I'm going all soft...

Cheers,
Martin

Joe in Worthing has one possibly for sale probably around £600.

I have fiberglass cover underneath
closed, no holes

So grid is used to reduce the heat from the engine, now I understand
but holes are needed

I'm waiting from long time to start to drive my car because I'm waiting the reomologation of it

It is better to have this 'under-cover' because the 'grid' (slatted cover) is very very flexible without the 'under-cover' and must use 'bonnet pins'.

The standard glass cover must have the 'under-cover' because this is where the hinges are mounted.

With the Glass cover and complete 'undercover' it is only possible to use the standard air filter system or to make a hole in the 'undercover but this still takes very hot air into the carburettor (from under the glass which keeps heat in).

With the 'grid' and a hole in the correct place then you can use different air filters and also it can disperse heat effectively.

There are now many disappointed A310 owners reading this because they want your 'grid' but I think you will be wise to keep it.

Thank you :-) I hot clear replacements from Simon Auto, but noticed he had two different tint shades as well as "factory options"...

Deep grey sounds nice, and looks good from the photos... but mine is going to stay banana yellow just for the hell of it...

Martin

Also the standard glass rear hatch is very very heavy.
