Tesla 90kWh

Postby Miles » Thu Jun 23, 2016 9:05 pm

Just been out in my mates Tesla OMG!!
My car is so slow in comparison, but the best part was that it had a fully functioning auto pilot.
Brilliant, didn't think I would see that in my life time.

Very jealous, even for a run.
I met up with a guy I knew at an event recently...he was a TVR owner who bought a GTA and thought about an a610 but bought a Nobel instead.
He now lives in California and has a Tesla, says it's quicker than all of them and makes his new family life much more enjoyable than the single life in the Nobel...
It may not sound great and they aren't that well built (unlike alpines eh) but they are ground breaking engineering.

I drive one and yes the performance is impressive but the build quality is really bad for a100k car. And don't get me started on where the electricity comes from :silent

I was chatting to someone last night (dutchman) about these. Schipol (Amsterdam airport) has them as Taxis and they are described as American quality....
Work fine, but the trim works loose and customers regularly pull the door handles off, they are some kind of clever electrical system apparently (sounds familiar) and people just grab and pull, and off they come.
That said the fast D models with the mad modes are really fast and the range is enough to tempt me. I'll buy my own solar panels to charge it and take the subsidy.

Anyone want a nicely rebuild Atmo, great colour, swap Tesla D model?

There are videos on youtube of the model S leaving Lamborghinis for dead up to about 80mph. They create about 800 lb/ft of torque from zero revs. Insane mode they call it!

Tesla have already taken over 300,000 deposits on the new Model 3 which is a BMW 3 Series / Audi A4 size car. Its not due out until next year. Shows how people are coming round to electric vehicles, plus of course they are still a bit different.

I think Neil said rear motor was up to 550bhp,in ludicrous mode, the front 250 ish.
I have not checked the specs, it was insanely quick.

They may be quick but my God they are the dirtiest cars on the planet anything to do with electricity is bad. 35 percent efficient at the plug socket, you then put the 35% into the battery which only 50% of it is recoverable as useful energy. Batteries also have massive power losses when the temperature drops, or gets two high plus how far will go in the winter when you also want the heater on.
Also the batteries performance drop off as they get older plus you don't own the battery you have to pay rental on it and maybe find out how much a replacement is as I think you'll be shocked.

I agree about electric cars, they are only as clean as the electricity they run from (in Norway 100% hydro, so that explains their high n number of electric cars) and the car recycling scheme that comes with the vehicle life. BUT
Petrol engine...under 30% efficient at full throttle, less if you run at less than full throttle (as if we would) :angel
Diesel, up to 40% efficient under the same conditions...and that's just the tank to flywheel bit. transmission losses, leaks, servicing, petrol tankers, refinery losses etc...all from 100% carbon source.
There is no such thing as an eco car. If you want to be green, walk and eat lentils. You'll walk alone quite a bit though.

The battery itself is a pretty non-green item. Enormous amounts of energy and pollution go into their manufacture.

I thought the subsidy had been dropped, hence the solar panel fitting businesses all going bust.

you may well be right, it's certainly been chopped a lot, but I'm still getting phone calls from companies plugging them
