Postby Miles » Tue May 31, 2016 7:02 pm

Hi there,
I am losing in the battle to replace my GTA wiper blades.
I have tried 5 sets now, none fit, does anybody have any ideas?

I tried a few sets at my local factors the day before macon...trying to reuse the push fit centre bit..but the wiper arms don't lie flat...in the end I just bought a 21 inch Bosch set and took the blades out and put them in the old carriers.
Maybe Renault ?! Seems extreme..or maybe see if there is a Renault part number...plus I am not sure if they should be 20 inch or 21 inch. The 21 fit just.... ebay listings for GTA show 20 inch...
I was also wondering whether to get a set of aero wipers...to stop the wipers whistling at 150mph

If you search "Renault GTA wipers" on eBay all three state 20 inch... those aero ones might do ? I think I might try a pair

These are 22 inch and made by Bosch.

It may be that those that can't get 22 inch to fit, are adjusting them too close to the lower trim where they will start to cover the rubber trim of the windscreen.
Mine are 4 inches higher than the lower screen trim at the outer extremities of the blade. In this position they will "meet" one after the other at the same place on the screen. If they are closer to the trim, they will not meet.
I got the Bosch ones from a Hypermarket in France where the Alpine is listed on the back of the packet. I also have a set from "Norauto", again from France with Alpine listed on the back of the package....... both are 22 inches long.
Also, I have a note that the Hypermarket "Carrefour" do Alpine wiper blades which are 550mm long (code B14), now that is the length of the actual rubber, but the overall length is 22 inches,
On mine, the end of the actual rubber blade is 2 mm away from the side rubber trim of the screen, and the end of metal carrier sits in line with the side rubber trim but above it at right angles to the screen.
I hope this all makes sense. ;)

Thanks John,
I tried Bosch ones from Halfords but they would not fit at all.
I.e would not follow the contour of the window, clearly I had the wrong model number.

It's the plastic dog leg that fits on the end of the arm that causes the problem, or that's what I've found.

It fouls on the blade, and doesn't let it sit back, if you hold the arm up and swivel the new blade you'll see where it is fouling, I just notch them out with a junior hacksaw and then dab a little satin black on the cut.

Later/probably A610 arms have the dogleg on the arm itself with the hook on the end, they're the ones to have if you can.
The plastic dogleg gets brittle with age and can be a pain to get the blade off...........eventually you pull .....it comes off....the arm flings into the screen and you poop yourself .......one broken dogleg......in my case the side that is not the same as other UK RHD Renaults.
Order one from Renault and the hook type arm turns up.......well it did 15 years ago.

Here are three pics of what to look for showing what the center of the wiper blade should be like in order to get the correct fit for the original arms. The first pic is of the whole blade showing the pivots required so the blade will follow the curves.
Before trying to pull the blade off the arm .... so as not to risk damage .... put a bit of grease on the pin within the plastic clip .... swivel it back and forth so the grease gets all around the pin, then the blade can be pulled off without too much pressure ...... thats if you want to keep the originals.

PS ...... just a couple more pics of the fitted wiper blade onto its arm.

I hope this helps.

Top tip - I've said this before I think, but I'd suggest putting a rolled up towel on the windscreen before attempting to change anything. If the arm snaps back it lands on the nice fluffy towel and you don't crack the windscreen.

Other top-tips - can't afford a country house with a gravel driveway? Simply glue Rice Krispies to your car tyres for that satisfying crunching sound each time you arrive home. :up
I'm just here for the gasoline.
