Corner weights

Postby simontaylor » Mon May 23, 2016 9:19 am

Managed to borrow some "corner weight" scales at the weekend.
I have GAZ coil overs with adjustable platforms and when they were installed, I just measured the distance from floor to bottom of sill at each corner. I think I did a pretty good job.

Front Left Front Right
210kg 215kg

Back Left Back Right
349kg 352kg

Total 1126kg
Cross Weight 50 % (perfect)
Left/Right 50/50 % (perfect)
Front/Rear 38/62% (cant do much about this)

That is with 30 litres of Fuel (about 23kg) and original 15 rims on the car.

Opinion seems to be, "no adjustments needed" :)

Empty car is perfectly balanced.
Clearly adding a driver causes a little more weight onto the RHS.

So you just need to fit the radio control kit and it'll be perfectly balanced... :)

Should have got a few sacks of spuds and plonked them in the drivers seat .

No need for spuds, in more ways than one, as I could see scales readout from drivers seat.
Situation is, Empty car is perfectly balanced. Adding a driver can only be adjusted by adding a passenger.
It is what it is.

My new toy is a single seater with the gear change between my legs.
That'll be interesting to use! :crazy

It still hasn't got an MOT (Brake parts slow arriving), so even if it's sorted for the weekend I wouldn't risk driving across the country in it yet. :?

I done the same method when setting up the 21T but with with 40 litres water on the seat & foot well and got within 10 Kg L-R and 15 on the diagonal, F-R split was a 65/35%
I then done the same on the single seater and every one said get it on scales it's the only way to set them up to perform correctly, and when it eventually went on some scales 3 months later it was even better with all corners within 4 Kg of each other.
It just proves that if you use the right datum points a level floor and decent tape measure you can get things fairly good on single platform units.
