spider chirpy chirpy cheep cheep solved

Postby eastlmark » Thu May 19, 2016 6:00 pm

I probably bored most of those at Macon with stories of my chirping spider. Noise coming from one of the back wheels and a slight lift of the handbrake or minute pressure on the pedal would stop it. Noise got worse the hotter the car became and, driving on the right over there, it was bounced back at me from the hedgerows and walls and became dead annoying. Found the issue today though, brake pads too large for the disc and leaving a un worn lip at the top which was catching on the top surface of the disc. I guess someone has fitted alternative pads at some stage....

ground off the lip and re fitted them, will deal with the issue once the pads need replacing- a few years at a guess.

never thought I would want a list but now find myself needing one just to remind me: Clio V6 230, 5 gt turbo, 5 Gordini turbo, Megane RS 300 Trophy.

Looks like the same issue that you get with A610s...I think they may share the same rear calipers and pads, as well as the discs.
If you fit XM pads, they fit the calipers but not the discs and this happens, for genuine spyder/a610 pads and they line up properly....but they are hard to get and expensive. Metal back fit in both cases. I found spyder pads easier to get than A610 and they fitted perfectly.

Mark,
You never bored us with your stories in Macon.
As I have a chirping rear too, I guess I should look at it some time.
