wipers

hi all

i took my alpine to london today while driving on the a20 in the pi**ing rain one of the wiper blades detatched its self luckily it was the passenger side
i couldnt stop straight away so i had to carry on to the next layby
and because of the spray from other vehicles i had to still use the wipers
now i have a nice scratch in the glass :cry:
the person who was behind me at the time backed off when my wiper hit his windscreen
i still think it looked better on mine though :lol:

The joy of GTA!!! I think we need to start a new area on the forum for misshaps and mechanical failures!!!

It'd be the biggest area on the forum.... :lol:

I dont think you guys are encouraging potential owners! ! ! ! :roll:
Only masochists should apply. Now why did I buy that A610 knowing it had a few little electrical problems??
Driving an A610 is just so sublime.

Italian cars rust, british cars are pieced togetner around strikes, German cars are expensive , japanese cars are produced by failed kamokazi pilots, aerican cars are no good on corners, the list goes on.

Alpine, race bread, great to drive, individual looks, good value for money, simple-ish mechanics, spares available (after a wait) and a great hobby car (things that you can fix which gets you out the house and off the net for a while).

As it happens I love it. It passes most tests for me, good value, great to drive, comfortable, light controls, runs on cooking unleaded, is virtually weatherproof, attractive and unusual. Designed for a 5ft 8" Frenchman so suits a 5ft 8" Cornishman well. I could not drive a TVR around for long (I did try) as it is designed for a 6ft tall blacksmith or Sumo wrestler and I don't have the muscle power for that. The Alpine is not perfect for spares price and availability but if you run a Ferrari you would suffer many times more. Great as a fun car therefore but it does present a few challenges to prevent boredom. 8)

A310s don't have these problems. :wink:

My favourite things are the guages.....mine take turns to not work and then go out in sympathy together then come back as if by magic. Yesterday it was the turn of the water temp guage, but today its working.....but the speedo has decided its had enough! It'll be back....its got nowhere else to go!! :lol:

It's about charisma without an Italian price tag.

Had the same problem many years ago in my Fuego turbo,the driver side wiper went awol in a contraflow on the M6 :shock:

My favourite was a Renault 20TX I ran for a few years. I was enjoying a drive through a familiar very dark and winding heavily wooded road locally, late at night with no moonlight. It suddenly went completely black both inside and outside the car and momentarily I decided I had died. I carried on for some distance from memory until I could stop the car from around 60mph. Fortunately I did not hit a tree. The cause was a design defect in the light switch and it chose that moment to disintegrate. I managed to bypass it and get home on sidelights. When I went to the dealer for a new switch it had been modified due to consistent failure. Recall? No chance! Nice! :(

I had a Fuego years back that used to decide not to start and had total electric failure at the most inappropriate times....like when I got lost in Byker in Newcastle at midnight with gangs of marauding youths knocking about. Fiddling with the lights used to coax it back to life normally after about half an hour!
