So, after Lee has worked his magic I finally have her tucked up in my garage. It's been 5 months since I first made an offer for her, seems like an eternity. Delivered to me at 07.50 Saturday morning, spent a few hours giving her a wash and hoover and then off for her first trip, 160 mile round trip to Surrey. Grinned the whole way, my 15yr old son next to me on the way there grinning just as much. Grin got bigger when dropped into 4th at about 60 and given a gentle/ heavy right foot.
She never missed a beat, I was as nervous as hell for about half an hour, anxiously watching the guages (get onto that...) and learning where everything sits and sounds like when she's happy.
I do struggle with my size 12's, had to really think about my feet position, my right foot at an angle sometines to get the brakes right. Think I'll need the pedal box modyfying (can't be the first to moan about the French small feet setup).
Taken a few miles to get used to second gear almost being out of the passenger door and finding reverse is an adventure but all part of her character.
Gauges.... Fuel one is on another planet, all other computer functions good, just no idea how much go juice is in her. Oil level seems to have gone on holiday and doesn't sweep on ignition.
Whilst waiting for the poly headlight replacements I've had a graphic made up for £10 from a local graphics guy, draws your eye away from the crack so well worth it for a temp cover up.
A huge thank you again to Lee, not only for getting her breathing again but for his invaluable advice and patience! And saving the day at the last minute when the exhaust rotted out a day before she was getting collected.
I think the advenuture has only just begun but worth every penny, the admiring looks by young and old (even a Police van!), people stopping to talk to me even in the space of two days of driving. I feel honoured to be the proud owner of such a car and I'm hoping my dear old friend who is no longer with us is sitting on his cloud watching and smiling.
Still need a passenger mirror!
