Advice on buying a GTA V6 Turbo

Postby RBS » Fri Apr 29, 2016 3:56 pm

Hi guys,
New member here. Looking at maybe buying a GTA V6 Turbo. Any advice on what to look for, questions to ask etc gratefully received.
Anyone in North Cumbria / South Scotland got one I could perhaps look at and have a chat?

Thanks.

Mate, that is a sensible move, to help you find a nice car.

I think the most up to date advice is that unless you get an expert to inspect each car you are interested in, factor in another £2-3k for age related chassis repairs.

Not sure I know any members in your patch to be honest. Your welcome to have a look at my A610 if you venture any way further south down the M6?

Cheers for the replies. I've had a good look through the Forum and it seems the front crossmember is the main area of concern but not really something you can check properly when appraising the car. Inner cills easier to check. Other than that I can expect electrical gremlins.
Been in the motor trade all my life (over 40 years) and currently working as a BMW Senior Tech so quite prepared for hard graft.
Worked on Peugeot in the mid 70's to mid 80's and must have rebuilt about 100 wet liner engines including the 604 V6 which is basically the GTA engine so ok with that.
Just need to decide between a GTA or a few others I have my eye on.

So, what are these "others" that you have your eye on, interested to hear what you see as the alternatives?

Well Simon you will probably think I am mental but here goes.

1974 Rover P6 3500s Maybe even a P5B. I worked on them as an apprentice.

1948 Morris Ten Series M. Don't ask why because I don't know, just like them I suppose.

1980 ish BMW 635csi. Would prefer a 2002Tii but getting mega money now.

Common sense says to get something with a fibreglass body as that is one area of corrosion less to worry about. Wouldn't mind a TVR, something like a 280s. Lovely one for sale locally at a good price but it is a Cat c so haven't bothered going to see it.

Alpine might be the best for increasing in value but that is not a priority.
