Newbie Introduction - Manchester based with 1990 GTA Turbo

Postby ChrisPackit » Wed Apr 27, 2016 2:51 pm

Well, just a quick introduction from myself as a new Renault Alpine GTA owner. I'm Chris L. from near Manchester way, and have just taken receipt of this rather good looking 1990 GTA Turbo, that I thought I would share with you all.

As far as I know, its a 'D501' 1990, has c.52K miles on it. Had a recent £3000 paint job and wheels refurb'd, just awaiting the replacement lenses from RATS to complete the front end.

Not really driven her in anger yet as it only got delivered today, but will be out for a blast later! Completely bog standard and complete as far as I know. Just lacking the battery cover that I will try and hunt down.

Anyone who has any previous knowledge / knows the previous owner of the car can give me a shout, as until a year ago it had been dry stored for 8 years and hence recommissioned in the last 12 months.

Incidentally, I bumped into Steve Taylor off here at EFI Parts Dyno last week (if you remember, Steve?) and was quizzing him for half an hour on them... so thanks for the help!

Any hints, tips or help is very much appreciated!

Thanks

Chris

Craig, Its Simon mate, rather than Steve. :crazy :crazy :crazy

Congratulations on your purchase, I hope it turns out to be a great car for you.
Chris did a good job on mine, its running sweet and pulls like a train.

Take it over to Lee at RATS and ask him to give you a detailed assessment so as you can keep on top of any items needed doing. Look after it, as it will be one of the best cars you ever own.

Maybe see you about.

Sorry SIMON! I'm terrible with names....and I'm guessing the 'Craig' part is ironic?!

OK, I'll try and get over to Lee in the near future for a check over.

In the meanwhile, here are a couple of pics of the car FYI, for anyone interested...

Glad you have a sense of humour too Chris.
It looks sweet, original style tail pipes and nice and shinny.
Any sign of any car club stickers or badges on it.
Who was the seller? and dont forget to join the club, you will get invited to a big French car day at Prescott at the end of May too.,

Welcome Chris.

I supplied quite a few bits to Mike who you bought it off (in Wakefield) . It came from the north east previously I think and was a bit of a barn find from memory so I don't think any club embers know about it.

Looks like it's had a nice paint job, and has also had some welding done.

Enjoy it as they are great cars.

You messaged me tonight through ebay regarding the battery cover, just to make your search harder the car has Air Con fitted so you need an A/C specific battery cover which are even rarer....

Hi Chris

As a new member myself I can't stress enough how important this club is.

Every fault, every niggle, every question, the members here are like GTA GOOGLE :-D

Was watching your car on the bay, paint looks lovely but as I know you'll already be finding out that everything that glitters and all that....

Lee has my pride and joy at the moment and knows them inside out.

Enjoy the car, enjoy the challenge.

Big MVS - What makes you think it had some welding done on the car? Was it a conversation with Michael that you had?

I'd be surprised if a 26 year old car hasn't had any to be honest, but just curious!

Thanks

Odd thing is that many owners are under a myth that plastic cars never need welding and they only see rot when it is rife and bits are falling off big time. Remember, it is a steel structure, with plastic tub, roof and panels.
