Sad News regarding TURBODOG - Andrew

Postby turbodog » Wed Mar 09, 2016 8:07 pm

This in Nick, Andrew's son.

I unfortunately have to be the bearer of some devastating news.
My dad was involved in an accident at about 9pm on Monday night as he came to visit me in Sheffield. He was going over the Snake Pass and indeed was only 5 miles from the city when he left the road and hit a wall after the car went over a large patch of black ice.
He was in his Volvo estate and all airbags deployed and indeed he got out of the car unaided. Unfortunately he passed out shortly afterwards. The paramedics called me on his phone and I met them at the Northern General Hospital where he appeared to be in a good condition but had an aching chest and back, but was talking and lucid.
The A&E dept was ridiculously busy and incredulously didn't receive a scan or Xray until about 8 or 9am the following morning where it was found that he had a ruptured aorta on his heart. The surgeons operated immediately but sadly he passed away late morning during the procedure.

His passion for cars and especially his Alpines were a large part of his life and he often talked about the meetings he attended with many of you here and the Tours of North Wales that he organised for many years.
As he wasn't really computer savvy, he would often get me to post pictures and diagrams on here for many projects that people had going.

He will be missed greatly, especially by his granddaughters and grandsons, his daughter, my wife and myself.

When the funeral details are arranged I hope to post them on here.

Nick.

I only met Andrew once, at a RATS open day... He was a charming man and knew a great deal about these cars...
I wish I had got to know him better.... My heart goes out to his family..

Very sad news, Andrew was a lovely guy and had been the owner (and savior) or my car. In fact he recently provided me with the gaps in its history and pictures too. I'm very grateful to him.
This is tragic news, as well as being missed by his family, he'll be much missed by the alpine community. My thoughts are with his family.

What a terrible and tragic shock.
Andrew was the very first member of our Club that Sue and I met on the first Tour of Wales event that we attended. Not being too sure of what to expect, I contacted Andrew for some information about the event, and because we were arriving a day early, Andrew suggested we met that evening, and we enjoyed a meal out with him and his lovely wife Christine who sadly passed away not so long ago. We had a wonderful evening together, and ever since we have kept in touch by phone spending many hours talking Alpines.
A great friend who will be sadly missed by both Sue and myself.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this very sad time.

I've met Andrew at many events over the 26 years of my Alpine ownership.
Always a pleasure to see him and talk about our common interest in Alpines and sporting vehicles in general. Always helpful, enthusiastic and cheerful, he'll be greatly missed.
My condolences to his family, such a tragic loss.

What sad news. Andrew was a lovely guy so helpful and giving. I have been lucky enough to meet him several times and always enjoyed his company. The rallies in Wales were always a high light and his support of the R.A.O.C.was very much appreciated.
Shocking news Andrew will be missed by all club members that new him.

Truly sorry to learn of Andrew's passing. I was really fond of him and was a great gentleman. Myself and Dermot Murphy have some great memories of time we spent with him in Wales, Ireland and London.
The world is a poorer place.
My thoughts are with the Jones family.

Rest in peace Andrew. (turbodog)

Absolutely gutted by this news.

Being one of the Northern folk, my first memories of Alpine ownership was rolling up to the kilton Inn, Mere as a new and rather shy owner of my dream car. It was typical of Andrew that he was so welcoming to a newbie, immediately welcoming me and my family members and talking warmly about his cars and Alpine's in general. Over the years, Turbodog and myself had many conversations at Meets as well as the occasional welcome phone call to discuss all things Alpine, Lotus and cars in general and he was always so helpful and informative with his knowledge of our beloved Alpine cars. I will always have fond memories of trying to keep up with Andrew when out on the open road. There was only one way for him....Foot to the floor!!!

A nicer bloke would be hard to find and he always talked very fondly of his family, often bringing his grandson to various events.

You will be much missed mate.

I am very sad to hear this news. I only met Andrew a couple of times but knew him well through regular calls I had with him regarding GTAs, going back 15 years when we were both GTA registrars for CAR. He was always incredibly knowledgable about the cars and would happily share his knowledge with anyone who called him.

My thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

It's taken a while since I spoke to Nick earlier to come to terms with this to be honest.

I'm absolutely gutted and heartbroken.

Andrew was a fantastic bloke who would not only drop everything to help you with all things Alpine but also be interested in you as a person and how you and your family were doing.

Just an example of this was when I mentioned in passing that my daughter was starting to take an interest in Archery. Not sure if others know but Andrew and Nick were quite good to say the least with a bow and arrow having shot for Wales at very high level. Next thing I knew Andrew had driven all the way from Colwyn Bay and was stood on my doorstep with a lovely Bow, some arrows and books for my daughter. That was the sort of fella he was.

We spent hours on the phone talking about all sorts as well as of course Alpines. He literally taught me everything I know about the cars. His last words were always "Crack open a bottle of red and spend the rest of the evening with the family relaxing" Well Andrew the Shiraz is open and I salute you my Friend.

Holy smoke. I am completely shocked and so feel for you Nick and the rest of the Jones family.
Sincere condolences.
My first contact with Alpines was with Andrew after a phone call a week before Easter 2004, .
It was Andrew who found me my GTA, A car I purchased on Good Friday 2004.
Andrew was a Gentleman through and through, without doubt one of the best.
He always said hello, was willing to chat, share knowledge and help every one out.
RIP Mr. GTA, "Turbodog"

Nick, many thanks for informing us all.

Very much saddened by this news; so generous with his time and help. A kind and resourceful man...the copper plumbing pipe Andrew fashioned as a road-side repair in my GTA is a permanent fixture.
Like everyone else, my thoughts are with his family.

Oh No!!!

This is seriously sad news. Andrew was one of the nicest people. Period.

Funny, helpful, kind and a true Gentleman. He and I spent many hours on the phone or via email over the past few years. He was a great encouragement to me in gaining GTA knowledge and always patient when I'd ask the same question yet again a few days later having not quite understood.

However my abiding memory will always be at Goodwood, sitting round the table outside having a cuppa and giggling away. Then when it came to his turn on the track he disappeared in a cloud of enthusiasm only to return a short while later, huge grin on his face, to say that he'd been sent off cause he'd spun!

He often spoke of His family and his proudness of you all.

I will seriously miss him and he will be seriously missed.

Thoughts to you,

Jon
