From Simon auto , see below

- An original coolant expansion tank ( with level indicator peg inside). Must be original Renault not a copy, Nr. 061045, EURO 39,00, (but no Alpine has Original an indicator peg inside)
- A blue cap for coolant tank, Nr. 061048A, EURO 9,90

Sounds like they are saying none come with the level indicator peg anymore ? So mine maybe ok.

My new one looks exactly the same as the picture in this post ?

Confused now

This is the thread Brad. See Lee's pics, I had exactly the same issue.

However, I think if you've sourced from Simon Autos or Renault you should be absolutely fine. It looks like the new ones don't come with the stub either way, but it's more to do with the quality and thickness of the plastic (and perhaps thermo versus thermoset) that's the issue.

There seem to be some clones out there of lesser quality. The bad ones certainly don't have the stub, but it appears the genuine high quality ones don't either.

Edit ...if it has the level indicator pipe then should be OK .The ones without are either thin walled of shite plastic/regrind .....

Interesting :o ..... quite often my Renault Spares dept. tell me that there is no stock in the UK but it is available from France ..... it takes a couple of days longer, but the guys at Renault UK get it for me........ no extra charge either.

Just logged in to the Official Renault parts link Stephen posted some time ago, and according to that by typing in the reservoir part number it says of this item "GTA expansion tank" ....... still available.

BUT ..... it that site kept up to date ??????

Yes I bought one from (Jeepchryslerparts..made by Crown) as above....and Lee fitted it along with the stainless coolant pipes...that was a couple of months ago...all seems ok..no ballooning/splits.
I'm pretty certain it has the level peg in the middle.
It was made of a nice (rigid) thermoset plastic..it was a cream colour rather than white (the ballooning ones seem very white).

Guess where I bought mine from ..... CGB !!

The reason I was asking the level question was is that I fitted it and then filled it just under half full and then took the car out for a run and when I checked it when I returned it had balloned!!!I thought maybe I have over filled the tank but it seems not and that this is a known problem with these tanks. I am going to contact him now and ask for my money back and try and source one from elsewhere of a decent quality!!

Thanks

Yes mine was CGB. I should have asked for a refund - it only lasted a few days. Once they've ballooned a few times they inevitably split.

I went back to the old one, but this thread's reminded me so I've ordered the Jeep one. (Thanks Lee for the link)

By the way Alpine trivia fans - Brad's actual car is the one of the key reasons I own a GTA.

It was shown at the mini car show that used to happen yearly at Dunorland Park in Tunbridge Wells. (Renault in T Wells were one of the few Performance Centres authorised to sell and service Alpines)

I guess I was about 15 years old when I saw it. I decided then 'I think I'll get one of them when I'm older'

My car used to be Marchants show car in tunbridge wells. Sat on a turntable in their showroom and was brought out for shows etc. Then my brother bought as ex Demo and then I bought it off him in 1996. Ive owed my Alp for 20 years this year. Still would not change it for anything else .

Just for info ........ I had to go to our Renault Dealer this morning to pick up a part ...... and I asked them to check the Turbo Coolant Reservoir, and Brad is right in the info he got from his dealer ..... not in stock in UK, ..... BUT .... as there is a price for the reservoir of £25.21 + VAT, they say there should not be a problem ordering it from France.
The cap is possibly not included in that price as its cost is £12.21 + VAT and in stock in the UK, but they can't be too sure if it is included.
If I were going down this route, I would only order the reservoir in the hope that it is included, as mine was. and if it were not, order the cap which would be at the dealership next day................ mind you, I only live 1.5 miles from our dealership. :up
Another reason I think it would be included is that there are two part numbers for the reservoir .... one for the Atmo and one for the Turbo, and the only difference I can see between them, is the cap.

Lets hope Renault don't use the same supplier as CGB.

I can't remember where I got mine from, it looks more like the Jeep one to be fair. I think I got the cap from CGB are those OK for everyone? My tank has the stump.
