A610 at fast classics

Postby Jango » Thu Dec 31, 2015 4:02 pm

While I'm looking for a A610 I decided to have a look at the one at Fast Classics.
I had a chat with the sale guy there about the car and also said I was looking to sell of my C4s 996 to make room for the A610, They made me a offer on my 996 which was more than I paid for the car so I took the car down a few weeks ago and sold the 996 and made good money on the car and had a good look at the Alpine.

Paint wise its in one off the colours I like, and is very good for its age, one off the wing mirrors have been repaint at some point in time.
Wheels are 1st class but tyres need renewing.
Inside seats and dash look very good but headlining has gone
Under the car some one as sprayed waxoil every where looks a mess
alarm did not work and was not sure if the locks should work of the key fob ?
heater fan did not blow and a/c needed renewing
They did come down to 36k but still to much for this car I think.

So still looking.

Locks should work off the key fob.

Headlining is age related regardless of mileage.

I heard it's had more paint than just the mirror.

£30k is the target price. I believe it owes them £28k so can't see it going for less than that.

Ain't no such thing as a perfect 20 year old car. In my experience, the well used and generally higher mileage cars are better than the low miler 'minters'. The truth is cars need to be used and when they aren't, things stop working through lack of use. Don't get me wrong, a 100,000 mile plus A610 will have wear issues like any car. For a supercar though, these cars do seem more capable of high mileages than some rather more temperamental cars I could name.

I have seen this car on a number of occasions. It is undoubtedly a very nice car with excellent paint and interior. It feels like new. The headlining is age related as Stephen suggests. But I do have my doubts as to how well it would run if you suddenly decided to do 10k miles a year in it. All it has ever done has been started and stopped and occasionally driven to an MOT centre. It probably has the original tyres which will need replacing (can't imagine them being too supple). I have been told that the car was sent to Renault UK where it was stripped and re-painted by the apprentices at the paint shop quite early in it's life. Not unheard of with A610's as the paint was of a very dubious quality out of the factory and many were partially or completely repainted.

An enthusiastic collector may pay £30k + but most of us would rather have one that's done a bit of road work in its time, with the odd blemish so that we can actually drive the thing when the mood prevails...

I must agree with "MellowYellow" here...
I have spent the past year stripping my A610 down to the gel coat, and in some parts to the fibreglass itself, and I have found several repairs that are well below the original factory blocking /primer coats. I am no expert, but the guy working on my car was amazed at the "Iffy"build quality. The car was full of osmosis and many panels were delaminating. Yes my car has had a very active and hard life. Maybe why it was sold at what seemed a good price at the time... but I have now spent "well over" that in the repairs.. It feels like a money pit, but I am now at that stage, where I have stopped thinking of the cost, as the car would never get finished. End result is, that no matter how much you spend on ANY supercar, it's only value is what someone is willing to pay. For twenty years I have wanted an A610, so this one is going to be a keeper. The value is priceless to me. All Alpines are hand-built, and we have to expect some issues, but I agree with MellowYellow, that a "working" used car seems to be a better bet, than a "Trailer Queen" show car.
I must say I am shocked to read about this red cars condition, but after finding the hidden repairs upon my own, I can now sort of understand...

I hope that my car will be back on the road in 2016, and I will upload a link to a web site I have been working on, showing all my pitfalls and expense of fully restoring an A610. Its not for the faint hearted, but these are rare supercars.
Could be worse! a Lamborghini clutch is around 2500 pounds to change.. so I dare not think about the cost of restoring a Lamborghini..

Still my passion for Alpine is ever strong... more so when you are out driving one with a stupid smile on your face!!! :D
To someone looking for an Alpine... just get one... they are worth it.

Totally agree it's not just the tyres that will be hard, all the oil seals engine, brakes callipers flexi lines water hoses etc. You would end up having to do them all, the only plus point would be it might come apart easier.

I agree about needing to do the oil seals and the other bits on this car, I think 30k would be its real price and then add another few K to fix all the issue.

It may take some time to find a Yellow or a Red one but I will keep looking, or I could repaint one.

But the car sat in a Renault dealership for the whole of its life, temperature controlled etc.... surely why would it need paint and the roof lining has fallen???

The rust would need looking at, the thing is it's not about being on the road there is no rust prevention in any of the box sections and they are sealed on the 610. Any form of condensation will kick the rust off, even if looks good you would need to open bits up to put waxoil in befor putting it back on the road. That's why when I did my one I replaced it all in stainless steel not doing that job again.

Have you spoken to Plug 550 on here yet? He has a nice Dark Green A610 he has been selling on or off for the last couple of years. I think he was asking around £20k for it. I have also heard that Richard Dredge is thinking of selling my old Blue A610 for around £25k which has had everything done to it (Sills, chassis refurb and re-paint) and in the grand scheme of things is the value bet.

Apart from Mr Dell's that's about all the leads I can give you. One will probably come up eventually but I reckon only one or two go up for sale nowadays each year.

It wasn't always on display in the Renault Cannock showroom. For many years it sat dusty and unloved in a corner of the Renault Wolverhampton parts dept.
