Little pearl for sale here in Norway

Postby BobFromNorway » Wed Sep 30, 2015 6:01 am

Not often you see one of these, especially in this condition.

http://m.finn.no/car/used/ad.html?finnk ... 83&ref=fas
(Click link for the ad)
55,000 NOK is just a shade over £4k.....

Basic translation of the ad.......... :ugeek:
Sleeping beauty seeking a new owner, and you could be lucky!

Sleeping Beauty? Yes, this car was purchased new by a Lady in 1980 - She owned the car until 1987, when new owners took over. The new owner did a few little things on the car - loads of necessary and unnecessary parts were purchased but never installed. Thus fell Sleeping beauty asleep - not for 100 years, but for 28 years (!). Dry and cosy, she slept until she was awakened last year.
When one has slept so long as it was necessary to give a proper inspection, and therefore, the following was changed:

-New Timing belt and water pump,-New Tires,-New Oils in engine and transmission,-New Brakes, pipes and hose,-New Petrol hoses,-New Ignition parts,-New Battery,-New Filter,-New Exhausts
-etc. etc.

This means that Sleeping Beauty is now in top form again, with 6000 delightful km after awakening, we can determine that she is a very vigorous elderly lady.
2-liter goes well and the car is a dream to drive - Comfortable and sporty at the same time.

Sleeping Beauty has got some wrinkles, but they are small - She was born that way and is still totally original.
Finding a Fuego in such a state does not happen every day, you will be lucky to find one at all.
Included are original NOS parts worth a small fortune, and there is a ton of rare literature also follow the car.

Vive la France! Do not let this opportunity pass you - You can have it soon. In the meantime, enjoy the photos attached.

My third Renault was a '81 Fuego GTS, £350, rotten as a pear at ten years old but me and a mate threw the air filter element away because it was that bad, and clocked 130 ( nearly ) down the local bypass.
I filled it with scrapyard speakers and graphic equalizer/amps, some just rolling about in the boot and we used to put Stayin' Alive on full blast in traffic and sit there straight faced...........Oh how amusing we thought we were! Looking back we were a right set of pr**ks................
I spent six months badgering my dad to weld Mk I escort arches in on the back ( nearest profile I could find) and painting it panel by panel outside with an electric spray gun and cellulose paint, then chopped it in on the R11 Turbo.
It's probably rose tinted specs but if we had a car it was never more than a few hundred quid and usually a wreck but we spent days pointlessly trying to 'improve' them, don't really see half primered nails with young spotties these days but I wouldn't go back and change a thing :angel ..........oh and sitting sheepishly in Mk II escorts as your mate was told off by the Fuzz for doing doughnuts in the carpark...........like I said........pr**ks.................... :super :super

That means I've got a Venturi windscreen in my dads loft and a side window in the shed.

I do like the Fuego, that looks like a right stunner.

My first car was a R11 TXE 3 door "Coupe". Cracking car that, my choice of tune at full blast was John Miles "Music". Cool I was not....My dream car at the time was an 11 Turbo so I am well Jel of you Turbs.

The 2 litre Fuegos were proper handy in their day 110 bhp, loads of torque, very aerodynamic which you could tell when you were at speed compared to the barn doors that were about, I had a GTX auto one as well, bought for £90 which I sold to someone who wanted the slushbox for a sick R25, never filled in the logbook and I ended up being phoned up by Derby Police 'cos he dumped it on a dealers forecourt one Sunday night !
I nearly bought a red Fuego Turbo from Parkin and Jones in Alfreton before the 11, but the oil light seemed to hang about after first start up and it was a bit scabby for a grand, but Brett Goddard bought it anyway and I was secretly jealous.........so bought the 11 Turbo instead....ha!
Also on Fuegos does anyone remember the one in Derby that had a V6 injected PRV in it? Same fella built a R12G rep all in black, got a feeling the same bloke built the twin engine R5 that I believe is the same one in Mr D's collection......not sure on that last one, but always thought a V6 Fuego was uber cool.
Sorry not Alpine relevant,

The second car I ever bought was a black 1986 Fuego GTS. Loved it.
Bought it for £650 with 60k miles, did another 70k miles and sold it for £700. Wish I hadn't sold it, really...

Is that the one that later gained an R21T engine and did a lot of the 'retro car'/'Practical Performance Car' shows/trackdays?
Yellow and red IIRC.

Got a funny feeling there is more than one, ......but also a funny feeling they are no tint, but can't remember if the base TL was untinted , it is/they are brand spanking in wrapper so here's hoping.......... What they worth mister?

Yes Andy I know the Fuego you mean, but I have no idea if its that one, the one I remember was a lady owned car that had a front end prang and was then rebuilt with the PRV, it was the same light met blue as the one in the above ad, when I saw it at Crich it was wearing Golf GTI steels and otherwise looked completely standard.

I remember when I was't lad there was a guy along the road had a Fuego, I remember thinking how exotic it looked compared to all the Cortinas, Escorts and Vivas............

Same guy had a Matra Rancho, not the prettiest car I ever saw, but kinda cool in a kinda functional way

I had a similar view of the car back in the day and, out come the old photos, bought this 2 litre GTX version in 1984. It was a great car, reasonably quick, comfortable and had cruise control, not that it was used much. I kept it for six or seven years.
These photos were taken not long after I’d resprayed it on the drive of the house where we lived at the time.

Yes, it did look good in that colour. Not too 'gold'.

Good spot Martin. It was a Rover 214, SLi I think. At that time it was a perk of the job, as it was a company car. It wasn't a bad car but did have problems under warranty such as the gear linkage falling apart at one time and having to complete the journey in second gear. One of the links had a crude plastic ball joint that had sprung off its connecting link. The replacement was a redesigned metallic ball joint. On another occasion the K series engine suddenly lost power and the car ground to a halt. The engine had to be rebuilt as something had gone wrong with the hydraulic tappets. I had the car soon after its launch so these were early teething troubles.

I only sold the Fuego because of the arrival of the Rover. Should have kept it and asked for a car allowance instead of the Rover.
