Alpine A310

Hello Guys,

I'm new to the forum. I have just acquired a 1982 Alpine A310. She needs a fair bit of resto work before I put her back on the road. Just wondering what theses cars are worth? and also where is the best place is to get parts from?

Quite a bit depending on which model...

Simon autos in Germany are a good place to start, albeit expensive...Google Simon autos alpine and they will come up.

Hi,

I'm in the North West. Its a black one with 42KM on the clock. She has been stood for 6 years and not moved. I'm still debating what to do with the car.

I don't know anyone in your area, so I'd guess Lee at RATS is the closest although his main stuff is GTAs/A610s but he has done/is doing A310s.
As for parts, if Lee or Paul Sage doesn't have it then try Mecaparts in France and Simon Auto in Germany.
Although guys like Robert Kern, Axel Reiss and Trieco do A310 stuff as well.
If there's specific bit then the French and German clubs can usually get it but it can be expensive.
A fair few mechanical bits are from other Renaults (obviously water pumps etc from an R30 V6 and a fair bit from R25 V6s, and even a few GTA bits... but not many). Bits turn up on the bay of e but I've had a lot of stuff which isn't defined for an early (3 stud) or later (4 stud) car and doesn't fit both (and of course, some fit neither!!).
Paul Sage in Sth London is the most knowledgeable and has quite a few 'consumables' and odd bits but Jon Law (east London) and Chris Rabbets (Stroud, but he's talking of retiring/closing) also work on them.

Hey, nice car would like to see some pics. If you need any parts I have a selection of used parts and also have a range of products for the A310's that I've built up over time, some more focused on competition but aluminium water pipes, specific hoses, brake lines etc that might be of more interest.

We've just prepared a lovely four stud A310 for the Brooklands auction, rebuild gearbox and freshened up the mechanicals on a 4 cylinder and continue development on the FIA 310 competition car. If you decide to sell the car I would be interest :)

johnb is in your neck of the woods and has just spent the last couple of years restoring his 310 V6 .Might be worth dropping him a PM for all the pitfalls .
I've got a fat arsed 310 in for major recommission atm and a shedload of bits with it from various sources .All pretty much std stuff and construction across the A310/GTA/A610 .
Probably a far better bet than GTA's or 610 to see some return as and when .

As clee said I’ve restored my Phase 1 A310V6 (yours is a Phase 2). I bought the car 4 years ago, started the restoration at that time and finished it a year ago, so 3 years in all not including the re-spray which is now underway.

Difficult to say what pitfalls there are, as I didn’t have any major problems. I bought the car knowing that the engine was seized due to the car being stood for many years with coolant in the cylinders. Other than that there wasn’t much wrong with the car but I completely stripped everything from the chassis so that I could clean it up and repaint it. I then had a clean starting point for the rebuild. I refurbished everything or bought new or NOS, engine parts, gearbox overhaul, ball joints, track rods, radiator, coolant pipes and hoses, brake pipes, shock absorbers, tyres, etc, etc; the list goes on and on.

You say the car has been stood for 6 years (mine had been stood for 24 years), needs a fair bit of restoration and that you’re still debating what to do with the car.

I guess the first thing to do is to decide what you want to do with the car, presumably move it on or restore it. If restoration is the decision then it obviously depends upon whether you are confident to do most of the work yourself with some jobs being done by specialists, e.g. machining work on the engine, or have all the work done by restoration specialists such as R.A.T.S.

Another factor is how much time you want the restoration to take if that’s the route you follow. Obviously dependent upon what needs doing and whether you do it yourself or use a specialist. It would be interesting to know what restoration work is needed and why it has stood for the last 6 years.

Welcome to the Alpine fold.

I have a 1981 A310 V6 4 stud car (actually the black one in Lee's post above) which is an ongoing minor restoration / keep it on the road type project. I have mainly used Simon Auto and GBS Alpine for parts, but most service items come from the local motor factors as they are common to some other Renaults.

Hi Guys,

You've all been great with info so far. I'm normally an American Muscle car guy, had a few Gen 1 mustang FB's. I saw this Alpine and something just jumped out at me. Its an unusual looking car, so I made an offer and it was accepted. That's why I said I was not sure about what to do with it. I couldn't bring myself to leave it their. I could just sit on it, as I don't really have the time at the moment, or I can get it restored by a company.

What sort of price could I expect to pay for a restoration on a car like this?

Difficult to say ,sight unseen .Depends to what level you want to take it .MOTable or better ? Engine ? running gear ?Paint ?To sell on or keep ? You need to decide< relative to what you paid for it .

To help give you a guide to values when restored the red one pictured by JL Engineering above sold for £18K at the last Historics auction at Brooklands
