If you have access to a drill press you can drill out the M5 rotor arm bolts without too much fuss. Just had to do it for a couple of cars myself. :up

Still waiting for seal to arrive before putting all back together .

Out of interest does anybody know if the top half of the metal rotor mount was bare metal from the factory or painted ? Cleaned up alm the surface rust off the one I have.

Right a bit late but as promised here is my write up on replcing the rotor arm mount if your rotor arm bolts have seized. If anything is not correct please let me know !

Thanks again for all your help on this.


1) remove 3 8mm bolts holding on the dizzy cap
2) remove the 3x 3mm allen key heads holding on the rotor arm. its likely that these may have seized over time and will be difficult to remove. Soak them in WD40 overnight and then give them a try. If they will not remove then you will have to either shear or cut them off
3) once these 3 allen key bolts are removed it is likely that you will have to remove the metal rotor arm mounting plate in order to extract any seized bolts that held on the rotor arm. Once the rotor arm is off this is done by removing the bolt Allen key bolt that holds the mount on which locates onto the cam sprocket. This rotor arm mount is in two pieces. One half mounts onto the sprocket with a keyway, and the second half mounts on the first half and locks out with a female/male roll pin. Once the allen key bolt is removed the top half of the two piece mount should come away from the bottom half (which is behind the seal). Then the rotor arm mount is free and you can remove the bolts by drilling out.

If the two halves are seized together as mine was then you will have to remove the distributor casing and prize out both halves and the cam seal. To remove the distributor cap housing you need to remove 2 x 13mm bolts located in the housing itself. Then you can prize off the casing , both halves of the rotor mount and seal out all in one. It may taking some leverage to remove. Once all is out you can spilt the two halves , remove the bolts etc

NOTE : DO NOT TURN ENGINE OVER WHEN CAM SPROCKET BOLT AND LOWER HALF OF ROTOR ARM MOUNT AND SEAL ARE REMOVED AS THE SPROCKET MAY COME OFF

If you remove the seal etc above you will need to replace the seal ( Part number 7700260074)

Replacement is opposite of above. I put copper grease on all the bolts apart from the allen key sprocket bolt to help removal next time. The sprocket bolt needs to be done up to 80nm torque and needs a few drops of loctite applied to prevent it from vibrating loose.
