brake servo

Hi all can any one put me right.
my alpine gta doesn't seem to have a brake servo is this normal.
I understand it would be on the master cylinder.

I would be worried if you have not got one.

Should be under the petrol tank (drivers side) which bolts to the bulkhead. The master bolts to the back of the servo pointing towards the front bumper.

Welcome by the way (I see it's your first post). Any info on your GTA? Any pictures as we are all interested.

Hi mate, the servo is directly behind the brake pedal. Can only be viewed from underneath.
Id imagine it is fitted however, the brakes are not that great. But the servos do fail, search for servo repair .(Rupert put up a good post on the forum)

Somehow, I can't believe your Alp does not have a Servo, however they can fail. So, I would suggest testing the servo's operation, and the way to do that is:-

With engine switched off, pump the brake pedal a dozen or so times to release any residual vacuum in the servo.
Now with your foot firmly pressing the pedal, start engine ....... now if the servo is working, you should feel the brake pedal move a short distance towards the floor. However, should the pedal not move, you have to suspect the servo is not working.
If in the event you do not feel the pedal move, I would repeat the full test a couple of times to make sure that that is, in fact, the case.

Thanks john for the tip. i tried this and it appears there is a servo. my last car was a legacy same year as the gta and brakes were very good.
iv been looking on the forum and it looks like some are fitting hi spec calipers all round .
so where would be the best place to go for the brake kit i looked on hi spec web-sight and no gta kit.
any help would be appreciated.

H spec kits available through the club but it might be simpler and definitely quicker to obtain a degree in mechanical engineering ,do a bit of hands on employ then set up on your own and knock a few sets up when you're a bit slack

It surprises me how few Alpine's do have brake kits on. Especially GTA's considering the older technology and tiny rear brakes. The 610 seems to have had a reasonable set-up from new with 300mm discs all round and was praised for it's brakes in the press. I've not driven a GTA but considering a few are used for track sessions, how do they hold up? I probably sell 1-2 brake kits a week on average to Lotus owners as the Elan and Esprit lack decent brakes across the range. I have seen in the past what is available on this site but can't find anything at present. Is it a case of brake kits not available or Alpine owners not willing to part with cash to get a decent set of brakes? Just curious.

A few of the Southern crew have them fitted but you try and get a set further North than the Watford Gap .I've only managed to get a couple of calipers so far ..GTA is worth what ? 5k ? on a good day .Kit is knocking on 2k + wont go under the std rims so factor in wheels and rubber and you are near 3.5k to do it .

I have to go through the club for these and the Spax dampers as 'The Club' developed them ,Fair enough ,I have no problem with that but I'd far rather be able to call them direct and actually get something done .Had a set of calipers on order for months and months + 3 sets of Spax but TBH I'm now past chasing them .
Club shop ,professionally run is what is required and I don't mind doing it but we all know the problem

They list but wont supply outside the club ,unless I try and lie.Whole point of going through the club us to up the clubs buying power/discount ......only trying to help that . All I really need is the clubs approval to go direct .... .I cant be doing with all the dellays and non dellivery anymore ....see what I did there ? Fuckin funny me
