Club Alpine Renault

I joined C.A.R. in 1989, shortly after its formation. At that time the club naturally had a following of owners of the earlier Alpine models as the GTA was then a relatively new car and the A610 had yet to be launched. Over the years the club also catered for the later models and its membership reflects this.

In more recent years I also joined R.A.O.C. even though their emphasis is towards GTAs and A610s, neither of which I own. I have also been a member of R.O.C. for many years due to my general interest in things Renault, having owned seven over the earlier years.

I echo Martin’s comment, ‘both clubs have their unique approach and the better for it too’. I prefer it the way it is, keep the variety, why dilute it with a merger. I don't think it would happen anyway, I'm sure that both clubs would want to retain their individuality and history.

I'm as amused as the rest of them :0). Personally I think car clubs run by committee always end up very political and cliquey and I'm too old for that shit!. CAR was always run by an older generation than me with different interests. May be a little different now - and I'm 10 years older :0). But I think I speak for most people in the club when I say we like it just fine as it is. I told Steve when he formed the club never to let it be run by committee and most of the founder members still feel the same way

Well this has got us talking if nothing else.

I like CAR, reasons being I'm old fashioned in the way that I like a membership card, receipt and badge and car sticker posted through my letter box within 5 days of posting my application form. A news letter every 3 months, a bi annual magazine, also a full break down of the club's annual accounts every year.

I get none of this with RAOC.

Of course I like RAOC too and this has it's benefits, probably why I'm a member of both clubs. For the record I have only bought one GTA whilst being in CAR btw. F27 OOY where are you now?

I would really love the two to join forces and make the perfect Alpine club but I don't think it will ever happen...

I think the great thing with this Club is that it has never felt like a typical car club, just a group of proper decent people who all share a passion for all things plastic, rusty and French. Most Clubs do my nut in. In my view, nothing needs changing or merging. But I am all for anyone helping Stephen to maintain the Club/website etc.

Well said that man. Hear, hear!!

Not sure about the number of members - several hundred paying and another 1000 or so forum users I think. Categorically nobody will have approached CAR. Its Steves club and it would be remiss of anyone to do such a thing without his instruction. Think you can see from the replies that we are mainly against it.

I think all the Renault clubs get on pretty well these days, in the past lots of factors were involved depending on who was the current chairman etc but mostly all water under the bridge now.

We do better than a lot of marques like who have literally dozens of really model specific clubs while we still have just a few wider interest.

Look how big v6clio.net is for example. That's a car that could be contained within a single alpine club but is better served by people that are interested in just that model. We get on really well and OrigineRS grew out of that relationship.

A federation of Renault Clubs was proposed a few years back but it didn't take off and Renault UK weren't keen at all on the idea while Renault France and other countries went ahead. So maybe being separate is a British thing who knows.

Like MVS I like a paper magazine from time to time and still get my fix from the Renault Classic Car Club of which I'm also a member.

The more clubs the merrier I think as they all do their own thing and have different strengths and weaknesses and give members in different parts of the country different opportunities and events to go to and then we can all still come together once or twice a year for OrigineRS or WSR and be one big and hopefully happy family.

I am also a member of RAOC and Renault Classic Car Club as the two clubs give a balance of local events and in the past WSR as a main event of the year (hopefully this will return to the UK again in the future). I have been a member of CAR but in the end a lack of events over this side of the country counted against them.
