FAQ. how to do things on the new site.

Postby The Saint » Tue Jun 03, 2014 6:17 am

If you have questions about how to use this new site, like how to stop the mail posts or certain preferences, even where to find things, then please post here.
We will then add the answer so others don't need to ask.
This will also help to find the bugs that all major updates have.
Thanks again for your support.
Vince.

quick question,
why are Stephens posts just a large, blank white area with his post at the very bottom while the rest of us have our writing at the top of each post?
never thought I would want a list but now find myself needing one just to remind me: Clio V6 230, 5 gt turbo, 5 Gordini turbo, Megane RS 300 Trophy.

I don't see that?? look all fine to me, but will look about and see if I can see anything that may cause it.

Can you attach a screenshot of that so we can see what you are seeing?
If possible.. also include what browser you are using and what type of device.. is it a PC/mac/ipad/android ect

Also, do you have the same issue if you try another browser?
Thanks.

Yes Mark is right, there is a big gap at the top of my posts and the edit buttons are low down.

Could it be to do with the signature?

I think you are right Steve ,,,,,, might be worth resizing your Avatar to 160 x 81 px, ;)

PS. JonV has the same problem ..... his Avatar is 190 x 143 px, and Steve's is 200 x 133 px.
By reducing the width of the pic to 160 px, it might allow room for the text to move up to where it should be ...... possibly ???

it does indeed seem to be an issue with avatars greater than 160 pixels wide although the height may also play some part in it.
I have confirmed that the issue is only seeming o effect users who are using IE (often referred to as Internet Exploder in web design/admin circles)

I have made a not to check the style sheets for IE when I have time.

I am definitly no expert on computers, but I don't think the height has much to do with the dropped position of the main text. Your Avatar (SuperSean) is 160 x 160 px and the text is correctly placed. The only thing .....IMO .... is that .... if the height is greater than the suggested 81 px, all that will happen is the user profile, under the pic, will be moved down accordingly. ;)

That is what i had originally suspected, however the height issue becomes apparent if you slowly resize the width of the browser window while looking at my post... then you will see that the issue also happens with my avatar as well when the available width is at a certain point.

I haven't however been able to replicate this issue on any browser apart from IE.

After looking into the issue, It looks like its a limitation of the way that IE handles div tags and their placement. I am still looking at fixing the issue.

.
there you go, just what we need to have some fun, a basket of say 10 "Div" tags each to attach to peoples posts :-) get more than 3, and you lose a Div tag to attach to someone else ... lol

I think I need a cup of tea, and also to try this on something better than IE8, doesn't make for the best interface with the upgrade, and the blinking cursor reminds me of the old football scores ticker thingy... years of old... intermittently flashes and then disappears... well retro. I'm sure it looks great on a better web interface though. Thanks both Vince and SuperSean for putting all the hard work in, I'm sure it was likely stressful getting it all done... and don't worry, I won't ask for a return to the old simple look button! LOL :-)

Best,
Martin

Morning Martin,
Not fully sure of your observations? but we have noticed that IE is giving us the largest amount of issues...
We will look into this and see whats going on. Or maybe try something where you can select, to switch that part off on the IE browser.. I had an issue where the Twitter feed did not work, and found it was an "Add Blocker" setting that gave me the issue.
As with all Major updates, things will mess up now and then. I am not a computer "Geek" and I am learning whilst taking on this challenge.
Please keep your comments coming, I do not take offence to any. This site has to be usable, and will take time to get 100%.
Thanks Vince.
