New JL Engineering London workshop..

Hello all,

I haven't been very active on the forum lately, but I thought I had better get on here to shamelessly plug my new premises located in Central London.

A stones throw from Tower Bridge the newly equipped JL Engineering workshop can undertake anything from a service to a fully blueprinted engine rebuild for your classic Alpine or Renault. We have kept on the old workshop as more of a machine shop and storage unit so the new space can be dedicated to working on the cars. We are also building up a product range of superior quality parts and products as an alternative to the original OEM components. I will be posting more of the services we can offer in the coming weeks.

The Renault/Alpine projects we are currently working on are: A310 tarmac rally competition preparation and engine build. Williams F7R hill climb engine rebuild. Competition Renault 5 turbo 2 engine blueprinting and builds. 24 valve PRV supercharged layout design and build.

Heres a few photos of the VW's we've been playing with lately. The white 67 has a 2276cc engine with lots of nice quality aftermarket components running 48 Webers 9.5:1 compression and a stronger gearbox that still keeps breaking. The engine is currently being refreshed with some nicer parts and some nitrous to liven things up.

The red car is a 2110cc turbocharged, intercooled, water injected and running aftermarket management. Its been dynoed at just over 300bhp and had to have extra straps to hold it down to the rollers. Weighing in at 700kg its pretty rapid but the owner wants a new engine, gearbox etc etc. This is where it gets more interesting for the Renault guys as we are having the rear end space framed and running a beefed up UN1 trans mated to the aircooled 2.8cc turbo motor. Not sure how the UN1 will enjoy putting the power down as the new engine is being built with a target of 650bhp at the flywheel.







Here are few of the parts I am collecting for an engine I am building for an outlaw Porsche 356. They are quality pieces.







Anyway back to Alps, hope it was of interest to any of you guys!

Great, love 'em, just couldn't drive them very quick without hitting something in my youth... well if you make the 650 high enough up the rpm range, the torque shuldn't be too bad for the 'ole UN1 with some mods and decent electronic control. 700kg is amazing though isn't, they always look like they should be heavier than that.

What are the regs for the outlaw class?

Hey Martin, the outlaw 356 is just referring to the style that has become quite in vogue with some of the early Porsches. Basically removing bumpers and trim, subtle changes inspired by period road racing etc. The plan is to build a 200bhp n/a type one engine for it running fuel injected with jenvey or possibly roller throttle bodies(see pic below) as it is going to get hard use and go to lots of events. Waiting for a shipment of parts to arrive from the states.


Outlaw 356 at Wheels Day on easter Friday. No Alpines spotted though:(
