I had the same problem on the A610 when I first got it and can confirm it's a lot easier taking the tank out. 2 jubilee clips undone and tank drained then it's just two bolts for the tank straps, breather pipe and that's about it. Or get Clee to do it like I did :up

Fieldmouse that sounds like a right faff, cutting brake pipes! :wtf

but im the one with a brand new master cylinder and 2 new breakpipes, it works, and i did it myself :up

I have now had to replace my clutch slave and master cylinder and now brake master in past 2 years due to perished seals. My car does not do many miles and along with age this is why they have started to do I guess. it started me thinking about the fuel lines in the engine bay. Heard many horror stories of gta'ss up in flames because of split fuel lines in engine bay and wondered if now would be a good time to replace these also ? If so which ones and where or just give them a once over?

If your car is a 1990, it should have the uprated version, just like the 610 have. These are much better and hopefully you should have no fires.

Any recommendations on braided brake hoses for the GTA? any particluar make / supplier?

Drained the tank at the weekend and removed it last night and it took 5 seconds to remove the brake master cylinder. Thank Lee you were correct that removing the tank is the easiest way but just a bit of a faff doing it.

Had a bit of trouble getting the tank straps undone as the nuts and thread had corroded. Going to clean up the threads etc and coat with copper ease before putting back on.

Going to send off my master cylinder to be refurbed tomorrow.


Also noticed last night a few dents in the headlining. Looks like the foam underneath is starting to breakdown so looks like I will be replacing that in the summer which is a job I am not looking forward to after seeing peoples thread on this on here. :0(
