RAOC 10th Anniversary (or should that be 30th in 2015...)

Postby Tony Smith » Sun Oct 20, 2013 9:50 am

Just realised this site will be 10 years old in April next year, we should definitely do something to celebrate. Any suggestions?

Blimey 10 years eh? That's gone rather quick hasn't it...

I'd be up for something, how about making Prescott a bumper one next year and we all try and stop over to have some beers? It's around the end of May usually and is fairly central for everyone?

Otherwise I'd be up for something else in April, again Midlands ish would be good. Bruntingthorpe maybe?

I guess cash flow/wife permission might be an issue for some.... Macon can cost up to a two week holiday  But I do like the idea.....

Filippo..... You could start saving now  ...... just think what a reception we would get from the other Alpine clubs and press coverage at this premier event. You should know Filippo... you have been a few times before.... it must rank as one of the best club events.. if not the best.
Worth thinking about, and if it found favour with the club, it gives us plenty of time to organise ourselves, cash and time wise.

A meeting like Macon is limited to a small number of people ...it should be something that as many members can attend i was thinking Brunters big marquee bbq or picnic or such like so that people can bring friends or family as well 0-60 qtr mile times ...laps track time, take people out as passengers. Some people have race cars so this would include all members. I have always wanted to go out in a race spider or a 110 driven in anger..you cant really do that on the road. This of course could include an overnight stay a few beers and a drive out to nice pub for a late lunch the following day leaving plenty of time for those that have to travel to get home at a reasonable time. There could also be show and shine for those that like to show thier cars rather than rag them.

This kind of event means that all the newly modded cars get to battle it out on the track..forget rolling roads...seeing is believing and everyone gets to see the shoot out...get as many club members together as possible ..its a celebration of the club and its members and tbe day out can be as expensive or cheap as you want to make it.

By all means those who attend Macon or Prescott can also celebrate 10 years but I think it would be nice to include as many members as possible. Brunters was my suggestion because its more central and relatively cheap to hire ...i am sure that its not quite that straight forward but I think thats the sort of meeting the club should consider ....a place to place road trip fun but not as safe as a track but you spend most of the time in the car and not much time to socialise. I think this type of event could be something for everyone,

Just my initial thoughts but i do feel that it should be a meeting that as many members can attend. I do appreciate that cost and availability of track can be an issue ..I guess Prescott would be a great event to celebrate it at as again something for everyone.

PS. also very happy to help organise/ transport and set up etc.

There is something very special in the pipeline for the UK in August 2014

Also technically speaking although the website and club in it's current format is around 10 years old look at this press cutting from the 1985 Classic Motor Show...

30 years in 2015...

From the days of Mr Sage I believe...

Is that Mrs Thatcher or was it just the style at the time?

Steve that was 2 months ago chief, what did I miss? Or was it meeting me at Car Fest North?

I nearly said from Tony's first post that we as a club have been going since 1985 (according to Mr Dell of course) but Tony does stipulate that it's 10 years since the forum started and I guess the RAOC reincarnation.

Anyone noticed the plate on the a110 in the pic above? W reg that's very late  Is it still going?

When all the cars were coming over in the 70's & 80's DVLA were registering them with a year letter according to the year of import rather than the year of manufacture as they should have done.

In the notes on the front of the V5 they state "manufactured in 19XX" where XX is the correct year. Causes hassle with historic tax as car initially looks newer than it is.

If that's Maggie showing an interest in Alpines then....I'm out. Money back please Stephen, if I have paid this year that is.

mind you, she has got her back to the cars, probably admiring an Alegro or something next door.
never thought I would want a list but now find myself needing one just to remind me: Clio V6 230, 5 gt turbo, 5 Gordini turbo, Megane RS 300 Trophy.
