So I think I need the following for the stalk

Auto leads renault adaptor
Auto leans renault round din to the adaptor
JVC specific patch lead to between adaptor and head unit

For the main wiring have and ISO to Renault GTA loom.

Is it correct that I will have to swap the polarity on some of the speakers? If so which ones?

On the speaker polarity question, it applies to a610, front right if I remember correctly, but you'll need a GTA person to confirm on the GTA....JOHN,are you there?

Now that was 9 years ago, but I seem to remember wiring it up and something being wrong so I looked at the diagram, checked wiring numbers and reals is there was a reversed pair....will have another look tomorrow and I may have a GTA diagram too.....

True to form, my auto leads harness came with a female connector! Not an ideal fit with the femaile connector thats in the car.

I was going to spend a couple of hours sorting it tomorrow, but my local car ICE specialist is making a new loom and installing the headunit for £45! Bargain IMO

Being intrigued by the question of polarity for the speakers on the 610, I delved into the manual to see what the problem was and having looked at the wire configuration and polarity to the speakers decided to draw a rough sketch to see how it compared with the GTA version which I knew about.
Once it became apparent there was a confusing difference between the two, I drew a rough picture of how each speakers were connected to the connector with their polarities for the 610. Then realising it might be useful to some members, I did the same for the GTA so the two could be compared and might also help members who would like to do the job themselves. I then scanned the diagrams and computer drew the relevant diagrams for both.
Because the 610 uses all white wires for the speakers, it is important to identify the pins by their A1 through to B7 as, without having a connector to hand, I can't tell if we are looking at the wire input side or the front..... I suspect it is the front, but I can't be sure..... perhaps someone can clarify.
Below are the two modified manual diagrams.
I hope this is of interest to those of you who might be changing the Alp`s OE radio for another make.

I changed my stereo recently and it all seems to work OK in the 610?

It means that the front and rear speakers are reversed on an a610 compared to a GTA.
Should make much difference in practice.
This wasn't what I remembered as the problem, I remember it being swapped on one side compared to the other, but maybe I bought a cheap ISO adapter lead and it was badly made. I had diagonal balance as first installed.
It's more confusing as the GTAdiagram shows the car wiring and the A610 shows the radio which is a mirror left to right.
Thanks John.

Errr...... Left and Right Speakers are reversed., which I think is what you found on your installation.

I don`t think so...... the diagrams 610 male connector is the one attached to the loom going to the speakers, as is the diagrams GTA male connector. That is why I have boxed my diagram with the lower connector in the GTA`s manual picture. You will notice that the outlines of the connector on both the 610 and GTA`s manual picture are identical. Sorry if I have not made it clear enough.

Matrin, you may have been lucky that your new radio`s speaker polaity matched that of the 610`s speakers. However, even if it did not, the radio will sound OK, but would not be giving you the full stereophonic experience.
To be honest, sitting on one side, as we do in cars, we are never going to hear the best of the stereo sound, as you should be sitting equidiistance between the left and right speakers to get the full effect, but the reason for posting the info up, was that it had been flagged up, and possibly it might help anyone doing the job themselves to get the best they can out of an installation.

Hmm John,

I think I must be misunderstanding your post then, as from your chart GTA vs A610
1) Polarity is reversed on all speakers (eg "A" row wires go to speaker positive on one and negative on other)...this makes no difference at all as long as they are consistent.
2) Front and rear are swapped Eg ba/a1 connector is rear left on A610 and front left on GTA
On my car I had one side front back and the other back to front on the faser when I first installed the radio, I still blame this on a cross over in the adapter hardness and I corrected it by swapping wired in the harness. Now where are the keys I must go and look now, it might be the legendary wiring quality of these cars.

Its so humid here I think the garage sounds a nice place to go, dark and cold.

Now for that hall and oates disc to test out Clees theory...the neighbours will love it.
