Do you have a proper GTA/Renault thermostat fitted as the cheap alternatives are wrongly designed for the application. The sealing washer on the bottom of the cheaper alternatives are too small and constantly allow water around the whole system and don't control the temp/water flow properly.
That said it was a very cool day and my Atmo has a 3 core rad and a genuine thermostat fitted it sat at 86-87 degrees on an aftermarket temp gauge so I would not think that was too out of the ordinary.
Previously with a cheap thermostat fitted the engine took ages to warm up and burnt huge amounts of fuel, now it comes up to temperature withing 2-3 miles approx.
