It's a Cartier Ref 02415, 5 pin big job with a green hole at the end possibly for some kind of buzzer.

Anyone got a spare?

Cheers

If the Alp is pre 1990, it is most probably the "Lights on Buzzer Relay" according to the manual.

Well you'd say that but my lights on buzzer works just fine!! Typical Renault then mine being an '89

At the moment 2 of the pins are just bridged the rest left blank....

Ah,..... In that case, your electrics are of the later (1990) type where that relay socket does not have a relay in it but just a plug in "Link"..... please don`t ask my why..... I have the same on my 1990 Alp.

If you remember, BIG_MVS had a link which had cracked in his Alp and left most of the electrics intermittent.

Ah good, then just strip it down and clean it up, as there has been high contact resistance at some point as the base has melted and deformed. Otherwise it will probably let you down again when least expected.

For those that are interested in this type of thing, this is how the "Link" is shown in the manual...... the "Link" is shown across pins 3 & 4 of relay/base 312.

JohnC, whilst we are talking electrical, can you help me on something related, and Jon / Will may have to do this later as well:

- the front fuel pump on the 2.5ltr turbo, I guess is similar to the atmo anyway, but I want to run two OE pumps in parallel. What would you say is the maximum reasonable rating / duty for that cable, will it take the load of the two pumps? Do I really need to run another one down there? I think it's wired off the same relay as the main pump on the turbo model? I couldn't see it on the wiring diagrams I have.

Thanks,
Martin

Martin, I have got some info for you which I think will help you.
I don`t know what the current consumption of the TWO pumps which are already running in parallel off one relay which is energised by earthing the end of the coil by the ECU. (see circuit below) this is something you will have to measure with your trusty meter. Having found out the current, if you look at the circuit, there is a number following the two colour code letters alongside each wire in the circuit, now if you refer to the other pic below, you will see about half way down the "Diameter and cross section of the conductors" and from that you can deduce from the cross section of the wire its current rating which a list below gives you a pretty good idea of its carrying capacity. I have only been able to find certain examples, so here they are:-

0.57 mm/2 ......... 6 amps
0.79 mm/2 .........10 amps
1.24 mm/2 .........15 amps
2.00 mm/2 .........17.5 amps
2.12 mm/2 .........20 amps

I think this is the type of info you were asking about...... Hope it helps.

John

Thank you,
Martin
