Rear Light Covers

Postby blueg33 » Wed Nov 14, 2012 3:14 pm

It looks like FAR and Elan Central are putting together a group buy list for GTA rear light covers. I have put my name down by registering with Elan Central, but it struck me that we should liaise with them if others here want light covers.

Price looks to be circa 100 euros a pair.

That's a really good price. When they first started they were looking at 200 Euro's a pair.

I'd have a pair for that too.

I hope I got the price right, it may still be 200E.

I am currently failing to register interest on either Elan Central or FAR. I thought i had but neither are working for me :(

That FAR thread is ancient ......It would be useful to know if they are still going through with it ...I have a set of lights with my polycarb man and am getting a mould made to reproduce the outer cover .Plan was to just replace this on an exchange basis as the internals are usually OK ......
It could not be done for 100 a pair though and I very much doubt the FAR guys can do it for that either .Is it just the outer they are doing ? Certainly not possible to do the whole unit for anywhere near that .

The thread started ages ago, but is up to date with the list being populated over the last few weeks. The same on Elan central

My french is crap, but it is just the outer as I understand it.

Lee, if you can get them done I will buy from you. It will be interesting to see of the French lot manage to sort something out. I have been watching their thread for a while and it suddenly has some momentum.

It must be easier to get several hundred made than 10?

Are you going to NEC? If you are there friday you could put my bits and bobs in a box and i can collect :)

Depends on manufacturing method .Once the tooling is done .They can't injection mould them at that price so must be doing similar to me .
As with all these things left to ' A Club ' it will take ages and/or fissel out + relying on a list of takers is always dodgy as at least half usually drop out  Perhaps Cedric will look at the latest posts and translate .

I've found the best way is to just crack on and get it done .If you build it they will come

Not got time to swan about the NEC I'm afraid .Too many cars + hernia and now dodgy knee getting in the way

Any one know of any covers being planned for the A610 style rear light.

I actually know of a couple of brand new sets of GTA rear lights. They ain't going cheap though!

Ihave been offerred a new light at roughly 10% of the value of the car! (assume a car in excellent condition)

Was offered them for £400 each light. They are brand new though and I'm sure the last single light that sold on e-bay went for well over £400 and was used? Crazy prices. :-(

I know this is not really related but I went to look at a job yesterday to get some old 1980's test gear for the XJ27 and XJ40 modified (seat belt presentation system). It appears that companies supplying cars to the American market have to supply safety related pars for the lifetime of the vehicle (Rear lights ?), not sure if the cars were sold into America. The company is making 1600 of these to be purchased by Unipart and supplied to Jaguar.
The point is these companies seem to keep tooling for a long time, can this be found or the original supplying company found and use their tooling for this and other parts.

Unfortunately they weren't.
Dieppe developed them to sell there but then their american associate (AMC) ran off to someone else (was it chrysler???), so it never happened.

There are some pictures on here of a few of the USA development cars, somewhere  .
