am i right in thinking that when you press on the pedal the switch closes the circuit?

which means that if i dont have any continuity when circuit is closed i need a new switch?

sorted... put a bit of wire across the connectors terminals and it worked so the switch was not closing when the pedal was pressed.

took the switch apart and one of the contact pad was worn hence not closing the circuit. rebuilt the contact pad with solder and voila

that will do for until i source a new switch

thanks Clee and Turbodog

MOT failed today due to a dim indicator side repeater and a dim headlamp...

If they are both on the same side, it might be worth checking the common earth for these lights. There is a separate earth for each side for the LH & RH lights, positioned behind the panels in the foot wells beside the front door pillars, (M9 & M10). failing that, check/clean the bulb/lamp holders, and any connectors near the lights affected.

In that case, it is more likely to be the bulb/lamp holders. But check also any small connector near the holders especially the repeater.

Also, I found on my side repeaters that when a previous owner replaced a bulb they didn't twist the bulb holder back into the lens properly, so when the side repeater went dim it was because the bulb had fallen out and back into the wing!
