Ok I have 4 cars on my list for consideration, but its not easy

1. Secret car 1 - standard car with good paint, very grubby interior, has leather and engine seems ok. It has stood for some time although it started immediately, needs interior TLC, has new carpets and gets inspected tomorrow 90k miles

2. Secret car 2 - lots of work a few years ago all the things you would expect and engine rebuild a few years ago, full leather, azev A wheels, needs a respray, a touch over budget 120k miles. Colour is burgundy (hmm not sure)

3. Car 3. Great engine, upgrades possible (but pushing my budget), all new running gear, brakes etc, needs a respray and interior tittivation. With the respray is out of my budget :( Without is pretty poor IMO, lots of scratches and microblisters. 120k miles (but gets new engine)

3. Car 4. This one is on ebay at present, no bids, needs a new head light, is running a mild remap

These decisions are never easy when budget is limited.

I would definitely go with Clee, do the paint later when you can afford it, it's no good standing next to a pristine car on the side of the M25 with steam coming from the engine bay or worse!!!

I have stripped and rebuilt one of these cars with help  It costs a fortune, don't take the risk, buy one that's done and worry about polishing it later on.

My 50p worth 8)

have you considered the one on ebay thats been in a fight?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221003989218? ... 1438.l2649

The guys got it priced up at telephone number money for what it is in my opinion, so it'd be worth seeing what you could get it in at - just remember though it'll be on the V5 that its been in a fight.

Looks a nice historied car if it comes in at right money :D
Previously Had a Renault GTA V6 Turbo, White on the D-Plate.

Cat C I believe and I am not sure how easy it would be to get the parts. Otherwise it looks ok. Whats it worth though? Even repaired on a cat C it can't be worth more than £3.5K? Cost to repair £1k? assuming the parts are available. so its worth £2.5k at best.

Who could fix it? Are parts available?

You have a good selection there, didn't know there were that many for sale

As I said before though you need to be realistc, you are not going to get a minter for £5k it's just not going to happen (I guess your into £10k Tuscan money equivalent). You need to decide whether paint or mechanicals are your preferred route.

I have supplied a nosecone and bonnet liner so I think he still needs a bumper and indicators. I'm more worried about the o/s front wheel being so far back, it depends what damage lies underneath. IMO Repaired even on a CAT C it's probably worth £5-6k.

I know it won't be mint. Tuscan was £15k :)

Mechanicals are key, but I dont want a car to like look like a heap of s**t even if its gold plated titanium underneath.

Interestingly, so far, condition seems to have no real bearing on price.

Heap of shit  Please !!...did you not notice the grey one nextdoor ?
All joking aside I can't get my head around buying a car of this type on cosmetics .To put it bluntly I know paint sells but you can very easily spend the 1500 needed to make it look nice on rot and other issues .
I won't go into details of cost but just have a look at a few of my project threads to see what you could be in for .

Lee is all relative. I did see the grey one :)

I am seriously considering your car, i didnt list them in order of interest, I have looked at all the project threads. Its just harder when my other toys are mint (the Tuscan and Ginetta both have paint like glass) and I have a budget (godamn recession). I was very impressed with your prep and the under the skin bits.

Id seen the front wheel back, usually the track arm or wishbone, I doubt itd be a five grander again though, bear in mind its worth scrap money to the insurance if a claim has to be made again on it as its been a total loss.

Similar damage to my G33 was £8k to fix. Wheel was back, hub broken, wishbones bent, rack damaged, indicators and lights damaged and difficulty getting paint to bond. Car was at the body shop for 3 months

The cat C car has a bent front wheel, that does ring alarm bells with me as it its bound to have stressed the rack, the bushes and ball joints.
