Runs, backfires, limps home, now doesn't start :-(

I used to get this sort of thing on my old Fuego. I reckon a good spray of Damp Start silicone sealant over the cap should help stop the condensation being a problem. Managed to get a can of it in Halfords recently, planning to seal up the gearbox / speedo connector on mine with this...
