To Noble or not to Noble..........

Postby phildini » Fri May 04, 2012 8:05 pm

Tonight Mrs Dini turned around during dinner and said " those Renault & Alpines really stress you out, your hair has gone all grey... why don't you sell the lot and buy that Noble car you like......"

... plastic will never make a super car value, so I would get out and get some real technology, get the Noble

Now that's an argument I've had with myself and with the missus over and over again!!!

Thing is from what I hear they are just as bad, more expensive to put right.

Still it's an itch I agree

Better choices

Postby Tony Smith » Fri May 04, 2012 9:28 pm

Personally they are not my cup of tea, although I appreciate they go and handle very well. Certainly not the choice to make for a headache free life though, built by 3 men in a barn in the midlands using a Mondeo engine with a couple of turbos strapped on. I'd rather take a risk on a late Tuscan or maybe 456GTA Fezza (nice one on E-Bay for 21K with just 34000 on the clock) - they were 180k new!

Just like an Alpine then, built by Pierre, Antoine and Jean and they used an old Renault 30 engine...... I will feel right at home then....

Tuscan blow up every time you take it for a drive ( but I do love the styling ) and 456 Fezza... NO THANKS! not a proper Fezza in my books, I rather keep the A610.

I have a good friend that works for Mole Valley ( Noble, Morgan and TVR specialist ), so no problem there for technical help on the Mondeo/Volvo engine. :D He tells me in comparison to a TVR the Noble is very reliable.

Two guys at the local Pistonheads meeting have Nobles, one uses it as an everyday car and loves it, it has 80K mileage and says it's not expensive to run if you keep it standard. The other has spent a small fortune upping the power and messing about with it, actually that should read a large fortune spent. The guy with the everyday car loves my Esprit and we always have a chat about them the only colour for them is blue though. Have you considered a late V8 Esprit?

...Phil, you are never going to get an unbiased opinion here are you.. I would listen to your wife, she probably has more sense than the rest of us put together! I'm only in because I got dragged into trying to find more power out of the engines for someone else, and had so many in the end that I thought I may as well invest in a car... that was a bit of brilliant logic (not) that would make a daft blonde look brilliant! So I say, go with some sound judgement, and simplify life :-) As they say, a change is good as a rest... go get a mistress instead, and keep the French stuff... I know what I would do!
