Tyre Size

Can I ask you all what tyre size your running?

My car has 225-40-16 Fr and 235-40-17 R. They are quite difficult to find sizes so limit my choice of manufacturer.

Thinking of changing as a certain person keeps nagging me that mine are too thin and the fronts are near the limit anyhow.

Jon, I have some old Compomotive split rims on my car. 16s on the front and 17s on the rear.

the sizes are 255/40/17 Rear and 215/40/16 on the front.

I was thinking about changing my wheels and sticking with compomotive as the current offsets on my car are spot on. Any chance of a good side on picture of your car so I can get a good look at the 5 spoke compomotives because in the pictures you have posted so far they look very good.

Depends on what size rims (as in width) you are running Jon V?

If you only have 8J rears then I think 235 is probably the widest you can go safely...If you have 9J you can go to 245 or 10J and you can go 255 maybe even 275.

Your fronts seem a little wide, do they catch the arch anywhere? Again what rim width are they 7J?

I was asking about size because of sidewall height. I guess I wonder if I should go to 45 from 40? The fronts don't rub except on absolutely full lock eg when parking. How would this affect the handling?

I'm not sure of wheel size but I think the width of the tyres is at the max for the wheels.

sorry I should probably have said they are 10J on the rear (7.5 on the front)

I just dug out the invoice for them to double check the size and noticed that 1700 quid was paid 11 years ago!!

I'm running what I think is the same as the GTA Le Mans.

7.5x16 at the front with 205 45 16
10x17 at the rear with 255 40 17

These are really easy to get and the excellent Toyo Proxes T1-Rs are very reasonably priced.

This is on some Azevs that fit very nicely offset-wise etc.

Had all shapes and sizes on my GTA over the years . On the back the optimum size is 275/35 17 on the 10" rim these look the absolute nuts but very hard to get now. I now run 255/40's which are cheap as chips because alot of 90's cars used them. On the front the ideal on a 16" rim is a 205 or 215/45, I'm not sure how hard they are to get because I've had 17's for about 10 years now!

I like Tony have put all type and sizes on my cars at the moment i have AZEV wheels size7.5x16 on the front with 215x40x16 and at the rear 10x17 fitted with 275 x 40x17 it drives well and not too hard at one time i had my blue car fitted with 215x45x15 front and 285x40x15 rear unstickable in the dry

I've got exactly the same, although my spokes are now body colour not silver

So it seems that most people run 40's of various widths on different size rims. I'll stick to them and try to find some good tyre types in my size. The fronts are available in Toyo T1 R, Dunlop Sport 9000, uniroyal rain sport, falken Zyex and fulda carat extremo.

Any thoughts?

I'm running Goodyear Eagle F1 all round. I find them very good in all conditions, but I initially only bought them cos I like the tread pattern (a bit sad,I know )

Yep that's what I've got on now- GSD2's on the front and GSD3's on the back....

Long lasting and with great grip and feedback.

Just looked up and in 2154016 I can get Goodyears gsd2/3, michelin pilot sport, conti sport contact 2 and Pirelli p zero nero.

Or hold out for the 2254016 and go with the Toyos.....

Excuse my ignorance, but what are gsd2 or even 3?
