Is it the end for Renault?

Just been reading how bad the new car markets are in central Europe, sales in Spain, Portugal and Greece down 50% and about 20% everywhere else. And worst hit Alfa down 29% and Renault 27%. Couple that with Renaults huge outlay on electric only (as opposed to range extender) vehicles which runs into billions which is starting to look a bit like buying a Betamax player or going with HD instead of Blueray and the future looks pretty bleak.

Maybe Steve can have a whip round and we can buy the Dieppe factory

The european slump is the reason Renault have been charging into new territories.They're also introducing the Dacia 'low cost/ basic transport' marque and concentrating Renault on middle and middle to low end market and sporty stuff (so dieppe should be OK).

Personally i think the electric car route is a blind alley until charging points become common. If you have a garage, you're probably in the country and an electric car isn't suitable. Whilst in the big towns/cities where such a car could work, few people have garages and running an extension lead across the pavement is an invitation for vandalism.

They reckon the German and japanese makes are doing better apparently - people perceiving they'll last longer than a French/Italian product

saw a twizzy in my local renault dealer yesterday..... looks like something you'd buy for your kids when they're 4 years old but with the price of a smart car

next there'll be a racing formula gone lecky

figures are quite impressive and still 400 miles between recharge... probably takes a week to recharge though

drops down to 100 miles in "race" mode though

nice for a drag racer! just attach a couple of chutes to the back hey presto

no price though..... plus they say it was at Top Marques in Monaco and they don't let anythig cheap in there gonna be alot of euros i thnk
