Would a colour change devalue a GTA?

Postby Danglydogs » Tue Apr 24, 2012 8:24 pm

As title peeps, just tootling with idea's in my head for the rebuild of mine (please see project cars section).

Currently its in its original pearlescent white, I prefer though solid white ( I believe Renault did a solid white as an option?), would this however devalue the car somewhat? Sorry if it sounds a daft question but I've always been into my RS Escorts and colour changes can significantly hit values.

Thanks

Rich

Shouldn't do.

GTA prices are really down to condition so that's what counts. Unless it was very low mileage and concours then I don't think anyone would worry that it's not original.

Having said that I like the pearl white. Give it a wash and a polish, get it out in the sun and see if you change your mind.

thanks Mate, to be honest, I think it needs a good mopping as it hasn't been washed for a few years due to standing. :)

I had great success with edge to edge finish with the pearl white. Front bumper, mirrors and a door! Not flicked into the wing or 1/4 panel.

I think there was a lot of hype about the pearl finish but seemed to be unfounded in our case, just followed the amounts and mixing and all was good.

Did 2 other pearl cars after the GTA and turned out fine too.

Pearl is a lovely colour..... Will it de value the car, no way!!, Ferrari's have colour changes all the time, do you reckon Mr Chris Evans white collection are worth less now?

If it has a colour change it has to be done 100% right, which will mean a load of work removing all panels and trims. But if you are going from pear white to white it should not be a huge problem so you will not need to remove everything. Personally I would leave it Pearl.

Personally I think the GTA looks much better in flat white than pearl.

Had 2 pearls (including yours) and 2 flats. Kept one of the flats.

Thanks Stephen. I think it will be flat white - easier to maintain in the long run and looks Better in my opinion.

I too think the GTA looks best as a plain white car.

I'm with pearl!

Postby Tony Smith » Wed Apr 25, 2012 4:34 pm

I'm on the pearl bandwagon, always thought pearl and black were the best 2 original colours - but equally both do show the marks so in time tend to maybe not look as good as a solid colour. So many great colours out there now though. Project DD needs painting and going to stick with silver - not necessarily the original one though!

If you look in the early galleries on here, Mr Dell usually used his flat white GTA.Then his affection started movong between various cars
I haven't checked but I'd be surprised if there aren't quite a few pictures there.
