My iPod wires in to the hole left by removing the "info" button on the stereo. The tape and iPod stages are set by pressing the "stereo" button on the fascia and the radio has been rewired to run permanently in stereo. My unit is the old style version. The system works brilliantly with no pops or hiss when you enter or remove the iPod but it does randomly seem to make the clock stop when the iPod is in operation!

The unit in your Le Mans is something you can still buy from Renault. It consists of a fascia mounting plate with a single DIN size hole and the pocket and space for the clock which you have to purchase separately.

Now as you know this was done for me so I have less knowledge than might be helpful but he did do me pictures of the inside for your perusal and the the wiring diagrams which I post below.

I have one more older style unit which is lacking the clock unit but if I can get one of these I will ask him to convert this too and put it up on here for sale.

I hope that this helps some of you, and maybe it could be added to the members section technical help.

Cheers

Jon

JohnC wrote:If anyone is going down this road of fitting a 3.5mm jack socket to the OE radio, it should be able to be inserted in the feed from the tape deck to the main audio amplifier...... if you can find the Lt & Rt channel feeds.
If you do find them, I suggest using a 3.5mm Break Jack Socket, so if wired correctly will break the connections from the tape deck when the IPod`s plug is inserted allowing the IPod to play, but when the plug is removed, the tape will be automatically reconnected thus allowing the tape to be used.......... Two for the price of one.
Link below shows the socket required from Maplins.

I was thinking about doing this mod...but the Jon"Viola" professional method seemed a bit complex for me...going back to JohnC's comment....I asked someone on a Spanish Renault 25 forum where they had made an aux input...Jose Maria kindly sent this...showing left/right and earth ...

..the way Jose Maria did it was to do what JohnC suggested....I was also sent a German manual (not a Spanish Manuel :) ) for the Philips stereo..(I think this is the pre89 Type)
Here you can see the pin outs for that connector...anyway you get the break jack 3.5 mm socket and connect it in series (by tapping into the left and right channels) I have a .doc in Spanish but the photos are enough to go on.

I'll try to add the docs to the members section..
This method might not be as elegant as JonViolas (you may get some crackles as you make the connection)...but I think I will try to give this a go at some point..
