Is There a GTA turbo Buyer's Guide?

As per the title really! Is there an online guide for things to look out for as I’m looking at one of these for my next motor?

I’m reasonably handy with a set of spanners (but can’t use a welder tor toffee) .Are they relatively easy to work on and are parts readily available and reasonable? Are there any parts that are particularly hard or expensive to get hold of? I hear headlight lenses are dear?

looks and reads good but you can't beat a close inspection and road test or have it looked at by some one who knows these cars.
clee always has a gta for sale that will have been all sorted.....whats new at rats.

Always a bargain to be had at RATS 8) Needs a slight touch up but nothing for a man of Andy's talents

I have this one being brought back to life ...better the devil you know and all that :wink:

Top end rebuild underway .Will have high lift cams + reversed headers and a few secret bits .Can be run on std Renix or standalone is all ready to drop in as well .
Or ....can go back together in completely standard fettle if you don't want the 50 extra horses :twisted:

Yes they are relatively easy, but then there are plenty of jobs that you'll find a pain to do. Space, or lack of it, is the main problem.
Engine parts are generally shared with other vehicles. Body parts or some of the more bespoke items are a bit tricky. But there are means and ways (overseas suppliers for instance).
Yes headlamp lenses now cost a small lottery win, however there are alternatives out there or you can do what I've done which is to leave the cracked lenses in place; they dont leak but ...

There are at least four GTA owners that I know of in the immediate area, but dont recall seeing a black model floating around - apart from I borrowed my mates 87 plate car which is now in bits :cry:
Perhaps this one has been brought down from another area of the country.

Personally, I'd be a bit wary of buying through an Auction myself.
I'd approach it with the view of finding out whats wrong with the car, rather than purchasing on it's appearance alone.

Unfortunately I am miles away in Norfolk! But i'm still planning on heading down as i'm also keen on one of the 944s ;0)

Thanks for the buyers guide link! It'll certainly give me somewhere to start!

WRT big billls, i understand that clutches are expensive as its an engine out job; are there any other bigguns to look for in the service history?

On the subject of price... and assuming the history and condition is fair to good, what kind of price should i have in mind for an auction price?

Popped down to the auction today.
It didnt look in to bad a shape. Paint work showing signs of delaminating on bonnet & wings and few odd scratches here and there.
Underneath the rear looked quite tidy and oil leak free (something mine is not :roll: )
Inside was standard - no fluffy dice etc..

Believe bidding started at around 1K and went for just over 3K
