How to repair Door hinges on A post? Not good news

Postby Tony Smith » Wed Apr 11, 2012 6:07 pm

Its a common but serious problem. The box section the hinges bolt through is prone to rot. To repair you'll need to remove the door and wing cut away the damaged corroded metal weld in a new box section then modify to take the hinges. I've seen specialists charge 4 figures to do this job.
Alpines - GTA 3.0 Turbo, GTA 3.0 Inj (Project DD), GTA 6.2 V8 (500 bhp) , R32 Skyline GTR, BMW Alpina B10 635 Highline, Alpina B10 E39 5 Series, Jaguar 4.2 XKR, Laguna 205GT, BMW 120d.

hi M8,

was you replying to my post about the door hinges but posted a new subject instead?

if so great thanks :) I didn't realise it was metal to be honest, its covered in Renault underseal and I thought was a GRP bit that had tore (only had a quick look  ). If its Metal I'll sort it - time to dust off the MIG!

Does anyone know if there is a repair panel available for this from anywhere or have I got to fabricate one?

Thanks

Rich
