Hiya Fella :D

I had an Imp for a while as well, yes it was a bit of a problem most of the time but when it was running well and the tyres were at the right pressure it was BIG FUN through the wiggly bits, after all it was a detuned Coventry Climax racing engine.

Loving the Sunbeam Stiletto basically 'coupe.d imp. The Trials boys usex yo use the very light all alloy 1098 engines a fair bit in their cars too.

My next car was a 2.0 GLI Cavalier with starship mileage (ex lease car), it was superb. Then came the first in a very long line of Renault 21 Turbo's. It was a red 1988 Renault 21 Turbo which I bought from my dad (his 2nd) and the rest is pretty much history as they say :D


You mead the 309 Goodwood in met green, I had a mint 3 door version. I had 4 309's in total x2 1.3 and x2 gti's, the gti's were vry good drivers cars.

A '67 round headlight Renault 10 was my first, a hand me down from the parents. Learnt to drive in it when it was still shod with cross-plies, which made for entertaining handling in the wet..... It had done well in excess of 250,000 miles by the time I sold it.

Followed that up with a Citroën GS.

Depends what you count as first car!

Mine was a sh1tbox Metro 1.0 in vomit yellow that used to be my parents second/spare car (their main car was an Ital!!!!! yeughhh!). It was never used on the road (I promise officer!) as I was only 10, but I gave it the death every spare minute I had on our lane (ahh, the benefits of living in the sticks).

My first road legal vehicle was a Honda 50 stepthrough, and the first thing with 4 wheels was an ex-police dog-van Escort 1.4 (you could still smell the dogs!!).

But my actual first car was a SEAT Ibiza 1.9TDi in SEAT Racing Yellow with a smart set of 17" rims, lowered, and re-mapped to 140bhp. It also had the stupidest sound system in it, with around 2000 watts in the boot. It was so stupid it blew the back window out one day driving through Belfast! :lol:

Ah well..... here goes..... I wasn't going to bother putting you all to shame with my first fabulous car..... Mine was a 1948... 9 year old Standard 8. side valve, no heater, Bendix rod brakes and semaphore flip out indicators...... but on the up side, if I pulled a little ring by my right ear, a little blind would travel up the rear window.... very useful :roll:..... you blokes don`t know what you missed out on, :lol: :lol: :lol:

Mine was a 1967 Wolseley Hornet Mark 3, followed by a 1973 Fiat 124 Special T with a 1438cc Twin Cam engine.

Then my first Alpine, unfortunately the Chrysler type!

What a good topic!
My first was a Nash Metropolitan, saved up all my pennies and I thought it looked the buisnes. The girls loved it, exotic American styling .
A good friend bought a Vauxhall Victor FB, he spent ages plus lots of dosh on it. It did look good sparkling red paint 'Winkrace' blue window tint.
We took it for an mot, put it on the ramp,( old chassis ramps).
We heard groaning and creaking followed by cracking, oh dear!
The mot tester said " I don't fink I can pass that its a bit rusty"
The realy nice thing about this thread is it makes us think back to when times were simpler. Just you and your mates and your assorted old bangers. great fun!!

My first car may be a little different from many here on the board... :)

The picture above is of my first car, a 1970 Plymouth RoadRunner. This was taken on a foggy morning before going to school in the late summer/early autumn of 1976, shortly after installing my first set of wheels and tyres. Oh, and the requisite chrome tach, as an in-dash rev counter was one of the few options the car did not have. And a CB radio naturally.
I purchased the car from the original owners, a retirement age couple who were acquaintances of my parents. Fred and Patricia bought the car new from Chrysler Products Claremore in Claremore Oklahoma in early February 1970. They had gone to buy a 318 Satellite actually, but this car was sitting on the showroom floor. When Pat saw it, she fell in love with it's looks. She loved the B5 Blue, the white vinyl top and the Deluxe blue interior. The dealer searched local inventory for a Satellite in this colour combo, as Fred being a very conservative accountant, didn't want to have to buy "ethyl" and wished for better gas mileage. But no white over blue Satellites could be found in the Tulsa area. As this car had an automatic transmission, air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, etc etc, they bought the RoadRunner since Pat liked it so well.

A little over five and a half years later, Fred decides its time to buy a new car as he traded cars approximately every lustrum or so. He mentioned it to my Dad, who, of course had heard nothing but "car" from me since I could speak. [it was my fourth word] Just so happened that my birthday was approaching too, and Dad and I had been looking at cars anyway. At first I rejected the notion of this particular vehicle as I did NOT want automatic or A/C. But, as most of the RoadRunners, GTOs, Chevelles and Impalas that we had viewed were worn out junk, or grossly overpriced/out of my range, I decided to go ahead and look at the car.
Well, you can imagine what a ~5 year old car with 42000 miles belonging to a post middle aged accountant looked like. The only 'issue' was that Fred and Pat lived in a rural area and had 2 miles of dirt road to travel to get home, hence, this being November, the car wore whitewall studded snow tyres...[Ever done a burnout with studded snow tyres? makes an odd sound and throws sparks... :) ] A price was agreed upon, Dad and I agreed on loan and repayment terms, [actually Dad set the terms and I agreed] savings were relinquished on the spot, my dirt bike was put up for sale immediately and the hunt for a job began in earnest the very next day.
When we went to pick the car up that Friday evening, Fred brought out not only the title and owner's manual, but a factory service manual and a stack of paper that contained every receipt for everything ever put in or done to the car. Along with all this documentation, was a carburetor kit. When I queried as to the repair parts, Fred answered "John, I know you had to have noticed, and if not, your Dad certainly did, but since you all didn't say anything, I feel I must tell you there IS something wrong with the car. I have had the carb rebuilt every year ; at first under warranty and since it's run out now, I was going to do it myself this spring."
"Why Sir?"
"Well, obviously there's something wrong with it. I have NEVER been able to get the car to idle smoothly!"
The car idled just right as far as I was concerned, firm and slightly lumpy, so I thought for a moment...then it hit me. Right as I was about to say something, my Dad elbowed me lightly, looked at me sideways , smiled and said "Don't worry about it Fred, we'll get it figured out."
Poor Fred never DID really understand exactly what all "RoadRunner" meant...

Hmmm...photo didnt come thru. Cant figger out how to put one in. :newbie

addendum - read the FAQs, and even tho theyre printed in 'geek' , figured I had to find a picture on the web as opposed to using my own. Lo and behold, I found MY car out on the www somewhere other than my own. :)

Well a 1976 Vauxhall Chevete in yellow it kept on cooking the crank through over reving looking back on it, but the second cars engine could take it the Alfa sud but the body disappeared.

My first car was a 1965 ( showing my age!) 850 cc Mini in Old English White, reg FOK 502 D (OK is a Birmingham Reg)

Within the first month I must have dinged every panel...but then that's what first cars are for. Within 3 months the engine seized so in went an engine from an Austin 1100...twin SU's etc but still drum brakes all round, what fun!
Went on to Escorts, Capri 3.0,Cavalier SRi etc before discovering Alpine...!

Ok, so just dug this pic out... my first car, a Sierra 1.6L. Ex company car purchased with 103K miles on the clock when I was 17 and hadn't at that point even passed my test. It was only a few years old, but a sales reps car so clocked up about 40K / yr and was then just sold off cheap. It came to university with me for 3 years after that, back and forth every term, plus two mapping trips to Raasay off the coast of Skye. First trip was with 3 of us in it, then the second trip the following year we realised that we wouldn't have space for us, six weeks supplies and a few hundred plus rock samples, so we took Jamesy boy's mark2 Escort as well. (Think Bodie and Doyle) That was a blue 'Ghia' with a wooden dash, fat black side stipe and an air-horn that played 'la cucaracha', or it would have done if half the horns hadn't fallen off so it was missing some notes.

The Sierra then became my first car for work before I bought a certain red car that I still own. Sold the Sierra at about 135K miles (?) to a young girl who'd just trained as a female mechanic down on the South coast.
