Get ignition module impedance tested
Earth strap to ignition module

Check connectors around ecu and main ecu plug
Fuel pump relay next to ecu
Check TDC sensor wiring and plug. If you have ever used brake cleaner or solvent in the engine bay, it melts the sheilding on the wiring for the sensor in seconds and can cause a short. Check for continuity with a multimeter

You know in the end its going to be something so simple!

Replaced the ignition module plug as it looked dodgey a few weeks back.
Got a new igition module waiting to go on, but it hasn't got the holes for the 3rd plug on the left - they told me it would be fine, what do you think?
ECU connectors seem fine, have put some circuit cleaner on them anyway.
Rewired the TDC sensor wiring when the new one went on.

Lots of time to spent with a metre and replacing earth spraps this weekend though... :(

Yeah, i know it going to be something soooo simple after all this!!! :?

On the bright side, i did distroy a Honda Blackbird on the way over to Lee's last night!! The back end skipping at 100+ (mine and the cars back end) He made me pay for it when we got on a long straight though...

Not cheap...£45, its a bit more from Renault. Its a brand new genuine sensor. Unfortunately no-one makes pattern parts of these as they are ecu based, not thermoswitches etc...

MPG and throttle response will be better too...

the igniton module plug could be the problem especially if you replaced it - i put a new one on and new pins etc and car would not start had to remove it and get another plug from another car cut the wire and solder it in.

run the car and while its going shake the connection about - if its the problem the car will cut out - if after a lot of shaking no cutting out -its not the problem

The rewired plug is from a new car, but ill give it a wiggle and see what happens...

I presume your refering to the Renix unit?
My old one had two 3 pin sockets (one wasnt connected to anywhere) and one 2 pin socket. When I had problems with my car cutting out when hot I replaced it with a unit which had just one 3 pin and one 2 pin socket. I bought off Simon Autos.

Turned out my fault was the flywheel sensor going OC.

Now the other night you mentioned the constantly dimly lit engine bay fan warning light. As you've replaced nearly all the sensors  ,are the fans operating as and when they should, if there is excessive heat then this will have an effect on the TDC/other sensors .Been surfing about Hall effect sensors and they seem to be heat sensitive ,I think the TDC sensor is such, but then a little knowledge is a dangerous thing

Renault chected the radiator fans when it went in and said they were fine. The engine bay fans are also working ok.

The ignition module i have got is the one with 1 two pin socket and 1 three pin socket.

Havn't been been able to get on the car today, but hopefully will be able to get a few hours on it tomorrow.

Well its time to eat humble pie (is that a McDonalds desert?) and put it on record that after 1,000 + perfect miles my A610 died in traffic on Thursday evening rush hour when very very hot. Unlike before it got going quickly. Before my wiring loom fix I would be lucky to drive 10 miles on a hot day. I have now discovered an additional problem that I hope will cure it once and for all and may help others. Cross but now much more happy Geoff

Is it related to the overboost switch on the right hand side of the engine bay on the A610?

My A610 is now rock solid. The final fault was due to an error in the Renault parts book causing the wrong fan switch to be installed a long time ago. Unfortunately this is not Bens problem as his is ok. I have given David Gentleman full details and I hope this is the fault on some other A610s and GTAs as it is cheap and easy to cure. The fan sensor / switch is the top one and should be part number 60 01 011 893 and it will hopefully say on it something like 1VT04AAQ 258F and possibly 80/90. If yours is wrong or faulty they cost £75.84 + vat. The lower switch only supplies the warning light. Its part number is 60 01 008 967. It should say on it something like 1VT04AD 275F. It costs £35.90 + vat. I assume 258F and 275F are spot temperatures but I dont know for sure. Anyone with a problem, check your part numbers and also renew the connections as they corrode and work loose. Hope that helps someone. From happy Geoff with reliable Alpine at last. 8)
