Dead GTA?

Postby Mark Corby » Wed Jan 18, 2012 12:09 pm

Finally back on here after my PC died taking everything with it....

Not a happy Christmas.... not a happy bunny....

Boxing Day - Hit and Run driver forced me off the road into a couple of posts - result is, well, drastic - both front wings, front valance gone, nose cone was a fraction narrower than the posts so is completely gone where it runs into the wing on the OHS (around the headlight cover) but otherwise OK (I managed to just about steer between the damn posts).... Headlight covers both smashed, along with indicators. Chassis pushed back around 2-3 cm on OHS. :(

So if anyone sees a gold Rover 75 with some silver paint on the OHS front bumper please shoot the driver. I didn't get the number at all nor did witnesses so stuffed there - Police no help either, but not sure they could do much anyway....

Would post some very sad pics but can't work it out at the moment....

Suspect a write off as BER but, well, HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLPPP!!!!!

Some consolation? The Nissan GTR is slated for September....

Happy Bloody New Year.......!

Sorry to hear of your mishap Mark, but you should be able to pick up the body panels S/H,....BIG_MVS, or his contacts, may be able to help you there..... which just leaves the problem of the chassis. It depends exactly on what you mean about it being pushed back 2-3 cms. It is amazing what can be done if the will is there. Will the insurance pay out for a repair?

Dead GTA - or maybe not?!

Postby Mark Corby » Wed Jan 18, 2012 5:09 pm

Yes, the insurers will pay. Have got to go see the estimator tomorrow.
I think the chassis is fairly straightforward - in fact it's more likely the suspension arm/leg. Thanks for the heads up on BIG MVS etc. I want to get it done! Too good a car not to if it can be done.
I'm still after a hit man for Rover 75s..........!
Thanks for the heads up - make it look a little better!

Plastic car painter and repair specialist there.
Only good feedback has been posted by those that have used them ..... And they have paired all sorts of stuff harder than a GTA. 1912 RR super something I think.

Risen from the dead GTA

Postby Mark Corby » Thu Jan 19, 2012 1:22 pm

Hi Everyone

Can I just say a big thanks to everyone who has come back to me with offers and suggestions!

A huge weight off my mind - the beast can be repaired!!

I'm off to see the estimator on Monday - hopefully he will OK a move to Halifax for the work! I'll then be back on here to get things moving, I hope!

Again, many thanks all - it's truly appreciated. E 29 MTP will come out of this better than ever!

Sorry to hear about your Alpine. Don't despair, there is hope. Last year I decided to redesign the front end of my Turbo by driving it into the back of an Audi. The nearside was pushed back, bending the main cross member and pushing the suspension turret back as well.
Having had a bit of time over Christmas and collected parts over the year, I've managed to graft on a new front tub which Martin (BigMVS) found for me. So now the tide has turned and its just a question of bolting the bits back on. I was in two minds whether to write it off but although not an easy job it is do-able and with so few around and it being a decent example I thought it needed to be saved.
Full report with pics as soon as I get it finished. Good Luck with yours!

Yep - shit happens....

She'll be fixed - if nothing else I'll get the salvage and do her up that way - but the insurers are playing ball so far so shouldn't be too much of an issue!

I will keep all posted on how she goes!

I thought you had gone quiet Mr Corby.....

http://www.copart.co.uk/c2/homeSearch.h ... CH_RESULTS

I take it you couldn't buy the salvage back?

I have all the parts to repair this if anyone wants to have a go/take it on.

What I can't understand though is that an MOT'd not smashed up GTA has just sold for £1750 and this is up to £1800 already  :?
