Front fuel pump - noisy or quiet

Ever since owning the car, mine has always been noisy at the start (during prime) and a dull whine heard clearly when stationary (say at traffic lights).
Recently the noise has reduced considerably - to the point that I can hardly hear it on priming and when engine running & stationary I cant hear it at all.

No change in performance, so my query is, what is the significance of the noise going?
Am I on the verge of a Fuel Pump failure ??

Paul,... just a thought, the pump is usually held in some kind of clip... possibly a "P" clip that transmits its noise to the body work...... is there a possibility that the clip has corroded or come adrift from the body allowing the pump to be hanging on its fuel pipes? ....If that happened the noise would be reduced.

Do I assume that most of you dont have noisy pumps then ?

My 610 is noisy when cold.................I guess John might be right.
