I credit Technic Lego with being the genesis of my love for all things mechanical. i had no idea you could do this sort of stuff with Lego nowerdays!

Nah sorry Lego was for kids .......Meccano all the way fully operational diffs in my vehicles power steering thrown in too

It's an age thing Martin, Si and I ( or should it be me, now that grammar is checked at RAOC?) grew up before Lego technic, so it was all meccano if you wanted something other than a wall or roof, you are a Lego man...
Kids now will be cad or simulations I guess...

So true Lee only ever built houses or garages for my dinky and corgi cars though my best lego model was my lunar landing module

A family friend of my father used to design crop sprayers and his son had the most Meccano i have ever seen and it was meccano heaven for me. He built the cab end of an articulated lorry and used the tyres off the good year ash trays to give an idea on scale. It had double axel and wheels at the rear with working trailer hitch. Both axels had diffs and when you tilted the cab forward it even had a gear box The steering all worked remotely via electric motors which supplied power through a 12volt harness as radio control was very expensive then and modern batteries not available. All thele lights worked it was amazing and from memory about 4 feet or more in length.
The funny part was that i remember the French bought Meccano out and the quality of parts dropped

My mum bought one of the last sets when they discontinued it, it's unused in her house somewhere.
I had two generations of meccano, mine and my dads, no real change in the 20 odd years in-between, one is painted, one plated.
Now where is that, a meccano un1 gearbox......maybe not.

Surely all those driving Alpines have to favour the plastic Lego over the mundane steel Meccano?
