Sport Spider questions

Postby Trevor Skedge » Wed Jul 27, 2011 10:53 am

I am considering a Sport Spider for track days but with 150hp and being quite weighty I think the performance is a little blunt. Has anyone used one of these as I want to use it and what are the best mods to go for? The yellow car on Ebay looks good value, any comments as I am sure some of you know about this? The other car I considered is the Mk11 Clio V6. Advice on both of these would be welcome.

Trevor.

I think that is the one that was repaired. He advertised one before as a CAT D.

With the sort of cars you are used to (GT3 etc) you might find a standard car a little slow (although it will feel quite fast).

Handling is great though and chassis can handle loads more power.

Standard car is 0-60 6.5s Top speed 130ish

My modded blue car with + 30bhp is 0-60 5.7s Top speed 149mph. Makes a big difference.

Andy and Mark will probably give some input too...

Clio V6 II is faster in a straight line if you are brave enough to give the gearbox plenty of stress, but it is slower round bends.

Spider inspires more confidence.

If you want a proper track day tool why not go and make the guy with the silver Clio V6 trophy a cheeky offer. There is also a still blue Spider cup for sale for £13K ish.

the car on ebay was repaired without using proper parts the previous owner who crashed it contacted me for replacement parts but nothing came of it
plus the current vendor has contacted me for a rear panel what does that tell you...... steer well clear plus it's ultra cheap for his prices stinks to high heaven

A mk 2 CV6 will be in the barriers before you can blink...

you can buy my turbo spider with 260 bhp uprated brakes, i can fit race adjustable suspension on it and voila....road legal, faster than any trophy car, and easy to drive in traffic, but will you want to pay the price for the ultimate....

Wise words andy, if you bend a v6 you are in big trouble and a spider will hardly be cheap!!! If you want a track slag you have to have something which you can push with out thinking what happens if over cook a corner and the back follows the front!!! A clio v6 would be a bad choise but a spider would be a great drive as is the 172/182 and a Megane R26 I loved mine when i had it.

spiders are fairly reasonable to repair you just need to know who to contact for the parts
